US repeals meat labeling law after trade rulings against it. Want to know where your meat comes from? Those days are over. Thanks to Congress you now have the luxury of going to the grocery store and not knowing where your meat comes from. Mad cow meat from Brazil? Meat raised and processed in disgusting conditions and fed who know’s what from China? No problemo! We wonder how many people will have to get sick or die before this changes? Us? We’re finding a local butcher who gets his meat from local stock. We may even say screw it to eating at restaurants.

I don't have a problem, I get all my meat at the local packing plant, but I feel sorry for city folks. At least I know my beef and pork comes from local raisers and the difference in flavor from store bought meat is very noticeable.
The main problem is ranchers had to sell down their herds the last few years because of drought. Since we had a lot of rain and snow last year and the pastures are in good shape again, ranchers are buying a lot of young cattle from Mexico to build their herds up again. Does the meat get labeled Mexican born and American raised? It's been going on for a lot of years so who knows if the labeling rules were doing any good to begin with.
Hey, I just figured out what we can do with all of that bad moo shoo pork we've been getting fom China; we can send it to the UN, for their Muslim Relief Projects!

Ah the advantages of fly over country. I just bought a half a beef from my cousin and the steaks are delicious and the hamburger is better than anything available in a grocery store. It's gotten hard to find "dirt raised" hogs, that is raised outside in pens rather than in a building. The meat from these hogs have more muscle and some fat where the confinement raised hogs are getting so lean, there is less flavor and meat isn't as firm. And now these foreign entities know their product is inferior so now US producers can't get a premium for their animals and the consumer has no idea how healthy the animals were and what they were fed. I doubt the packers tried to stop this since it allows them to import inferior product and mark it up like it was raised in the US.
Now that it's just me & the Mrs. I get my meat at the butcher's - guaranteed USA beef and American raised chicken & pork. It's a little more expensive, but worth it. Families on a budget though, are screwed. Pretty soon you won't be able to put "Made in the USA" on products because racism or something.
