  • The lefties always attack Dice, saying he only shows the dumbest answers. Which is true, it's supposed to be entertaining while at the same time showing us the stupidity of people these days. But,....to show us the dumb ones, there have to actually BE dumb ones. And this is pretty dumb.

  • Dad was the oldest of nine boys. At one point I think five or six of them were serving at the same time in WWII--the local newspaper did a big writeup. The second oldest boy--so of course the brother Dad was the closest to--is the only one who didn't come home. He was a pilot, flying bombing runs over Germany. Witnesses saw them shot down, nothing was recovered, no bodies, no crash site, nothing. When I think of the full, productive, rewarding, happy life Dad has led since the war, it hits home what a huge sacrifice Uncle Bob made for his country. He got none of that. I never met the guy of course, but I am determined to remember.

    • My Dad as well as my moms three brothers all served. Dad in England, One uncle in the pacific in the navy, one in the army and my uncle ErvIn with Patton's third Army, killed at the battle of the bulge..The ones that came back realized what they had fought for and in one case, my uncle Emil was first into on of the concentration camps....They are all gone now, but I have their stories, and a few mementos...

      • I don't have any similar stories. My father, the oldest of 3, was a first generation American, and too young to have been in WWII. He served during Korea, but never saw action.
There is one story my mother told us, that he never talked about, because he didn't want to relive how close he came to death.
He was supposed to go on a training mission when he was assigned to a SAC Base in Kansas. The only reason he didn't go was because the Flight Surgeon refused to allow him to go, because he was 2 lbs over the weight limit.
The plane he was supposed to go on crashed, it went straight into the ground, there was not enough wreckage found at the crash site to make it worthwhile to try to recover the bodies. My father was very lucky.

  • Parents don't teach their kids anything about pride in our country or those who defend us. Teachers no longer teach American history, they twist it to denigrate our military and everything that made this country the greatest on earth. These idiots make me sick, and at times angry.

    • It is even more gross when I as an (legal) immigrant and citizen know shit loads more about this country than born people... it is not a good look. It is even a worst look when they are considerable older than me. It is head shaking in great disbelief.

Then they make it worst when they question me as to how I learnt these things. And are amazed that my school did its part and I did the rest. Yes there are things called books and when you don't know where the library is there is a thing called the internet, it has been world widely available for a long time. And yes people from other countries can read and figure shit out... It is not that hard.

      • The problem is, our current administration has encouraged the lack of assimilation and learning about the country. They seem to think it is racist to expect people from other countries to learn how to act here.

  • Parents... Teachers... a lot of fault and blame to go around. A lot of countries have memorial type days so it is not even something unique to the USA so no matter where they came from originally or where their parents or grandparents came from originally, one can at least figure it out. However... like I said, there is a lot of blame to be passed around here.

  • Not a surprise. For many people a holiday is a holiday, it's a reason to cookout, gorge, drink and/or set off fireworks.

I'm grateful that none of the members of my family that served weren't killed in action. Many people can't say that and this holiday is likely difficult for them. The same goes for families whose loved ones are missing in action. It's bad enough to lose someone, it's another thing to not know what happened to them.

For those that lost loved ones in combat, prayers to you and thank you to them.
