  • Welcome to my nightly drive home from work at 2AM in Texas. San Antonio, Texas, the DWI capitol of the state. My wife almost died last Saturday night hauling her horse home from a midnight ride with her group of 'bandits'. She's on a divided highway and sees headlights coming right at her. Luckily the car beside her saw it and slowed enough to let my wife get over as the drunk blew past both of them. Talking with a co-worker last night, he said he had a guy nearly kill him on the same night night driving home from work on I-10. Driving the wrong way on the interstate, you have to really work hard to do that. it's so bad here that we have flashing red lights on freeway exit ramps to try and stop people from entering the freeway going the wrong direction.

    So…. my guess is Beto takes Bexar county by a landslide. He's one of them after all.

    • My coworker almost died on Callaghan. Some guy “fell asleep” and went the wrong way off a 410 on ramp. If a cop hadn’t seen it, followed him off, and radioed for EMTs as it was going down.... they still haven’t found my co-workers back axle.

    • People have to pay attention, the life they save may be their own. The drunk Navajos on I-40 around Grants and Gallup. You are taking your life in your hands if you get on I-25 from Albuquerque to Santa Fe at night. But this is what happens in a state where people who have 5 or 7 or even 10 DUI's can still get a drivers license. And most of the drunks drive without one anyway.

      All you guys can do M is pay close attention because nothing will ever change. It might help if you Texans would slow down a little too. (snicker)

  • More to the story: instead of being charged with a felony he got a slap on the wrist, no charges at all as long as he entered a "diversion program."

    He blew a really high number on the breathalyzer, was drunk out of his skull, hit a truck and crossed the median into oncoming traffic, and then tried to flee the scene. No felony charges. Here's the punchline: his father was a county judge at the time.

    • Things were a lot different 20 years ago than they are now in the western states. In my younger days you were not considered drunk until you fell off the bar stool and couldn't remember your name in New Mexico.
