The US is the world leader in producing and launching rockets for commercial and now military satellites. This is thanks to the complete re - think of the old designs and the ability land and reuse the boosters. That's entirely due to SpaceX which was created by Musk. Boeing and Lockmart could have done this anytime in the last 20 years, but that would have taken quite a bit of risk and they didn't need to because their feed tubes are surgically sewn to the government tit. When a SpaceX rocket failed to land correctly, and there were a number of failures before they got it right, they put the failure on youtube for everyone to see. Human flight rated capsules are a different animal however because NASA is in the loop and they are very public relations oriented. As for Musk and Tesla, he took a risk again and this time it may not pay off. Such is the nature of real free market capitalism instead of government oriented corporatism.
SpaceX is more dependent on the government teat than Boeing ever was. Ever. SpaceX is almost entirely a government contractor. You want to see rockets that don't blow up? Look at Bezos rockets.
A quick google search does reveal some reporting on this. Spun positively to indicate that shit blowing up leads to discoveries that make going forward possible.
Elon Musk is sort of like Tony Stark... if he was played by Chris Elliott.
I know Tony Stark is what everybody wants him to be. I'm afraid he's nothing more than a con man. I just read an article about Tesla being on the verge of bankruptcy... and that was a fairly favorable article believe it or not. Now he's saying he wants Tesla to take over the taxicab/Uber business with self-driving cars and he claims he can get it done in a couple years. To me it just sounds like more baloney. Hey, dude, try to get Tesla to succeed in the business it's already failing at before you start something new!
If it came to trusting my life to a rocket launch, I'd trust something built by Bezos long before I'd trust something built by Musk. Bezos is slowly and quietly building a launch system that doesn't make outlandish claims and generally has successful launches--pretty much the opposite of SpaceX.
