  • Oh and I do love how Indigenous people are painted as the little ones that got screwed. That is true in a lot of quarters and it is detestable, but not all. Just like everyone, they can have great capacity for bad and trickery upon those who just wanted to live in peace with them. That the indigenous were overpowered as a direct response to their antagonistic behaviors do not make them innocent nor deserving of sympathy.

    • And many of the Indians who play the victim today, were in fact the victimizers when the Europeans showed up. Here in Michigan for example, the Europeans ran into various tribes who had just arrived in the area themselves, having destroyed the previous inhabitants of the area.

      • I found out that direct ancestors of South Africans today (Black) were a warrior tribe that destroyed a peaceful tribe, basically made them extinct, took over the land and when the Europeans came they did not even give them a chance. In time, and in most cases in direct response to aggressive behavior and violence they were overpowered and taken over. I have known of SA's plight for freedom and so on and yes very many detestable stories and facts for sure, but I have wondered ever since I found out of their past as a people, if their issues were a direct result of their ancestors' bloodlust. That is to say they went through suffering due to what the ancestors did...

        I am not a believer in paying the debts of ancestors, but that is a reality that we cannot run away from. It is all around us. The state of our country now on all fronts did not just start 8 years ago. If every generation hence fails to break the chain then they remain in poverty and other ills. I think the same is for every people and country.

        I feel bad overall for Indigenous people and I recognize that may got played and worst, but the truth is the truth, that if they really wanted someone to blame for their ills they need to look at their ancestry and their own unwillingness to break the chain.

  • Good article. I seriously can't imagine being forced to do stuff for people not my family AND not being paid for it... or else it is not some kind of apprenticeship or educational program that allows me to learn in order to work for money later. hell no...

    Allowed to inherit? I have a problem with the notion that governments "allow" people to inherit. No government should stand between someone's wishes for their own money and the fulfillment of those wishes. If the idiot left no will or stated nothing at multiple witnesses that can attest to her intentions for her money, then the funds should go to the nearest living familial elder/intimate adult in that person's life at the time of death. So if married, the spouse... divorced with kids, eldest child regardless of gender. Never married, no kids, parents deceased: eldest sibling, nephew/niece or aunt/uncle.

    Why complicate things? Let the next person decide to keep it all or disperse. People get salty? Too bad... that is why wills exist, get mad at the will-less fool. Government involvement: minimum. Other than to ensure the eldest familial/intimate family got it or if no family/will/claimants at all, then the government can take it. Why is government SO much more involved in inheritance to the point of taxing it? That is wrong in my opinion.

    • Of course it's wrong. Everything that a person owns has already been taxed, in many cases, a LOT of times.

      • Exactly. Taxing inheritance is evil in my opinion.Taxing returns on investments is evil. Over-Taxing on earning is evil. Taxation should barely be felt if it is just. Taxation as it is today is unjust, immoral and actually un-biblical.
