All TSA has done is prevent people from getting into the cockpit via the terminal building as a passenger. It's really expensive window dressing.
I could do this today if I wanted to. I know how to fly and I know how to get the aircraft to an active runway without being stopped. I wonder if TSA and the FAA will be visiting me next week once they do a review of licensed aircraft mechanics that also fly.
An old friend talked me into going with him in his 185 Cessna, I hate to fly, when we were half baked one night. A couple of days later I was sitting on the runway with "Joe" while he was explaining all the controls and instruments and I'm thinking about how many button holes my ass was going to pull in this seat.
Joe was a retired pilot, an instructor for 35 years, and the calmest man I ever met. He just talked, explained what he was doing, so calm, before I knew it we were in the air. He flew around about an hour talking the whole time. This is what the the wheel is for, this is what the pedals are for, this little wheel is a trim tab? I think? That helps keep a level flight without having to fight the wheel.
Joe then said you can drive a truck can't you? Yes. You can operate any kind of heavy equipment known to man? Yes. Then you can fly a plane and he took his hands and feet off the controls! I was kind of calm, enjoying myself, then slam! My asshole shut so tight you couldn't get a flashlight to shine in it! But I grabbed hold and away we went.
You are right about anyone being able to fly with very little instructions if they are observant enough. If I can do it anyone can do it and that was proven on 9/11. It was proven again by this nutcase. I just thank God there were no passengers on the plane, the guy was going to die and anyone with him would have been killed too.
An old dozer operator was part of the group of guys that taught me to fly gliders. When he likened the stick to the control stick of a dozer blade, it all became very clear.
Yep, just like any equipment all it takes is a gentle touch on the controls. Especially when you are 3000 feet in the air! LOL
