Unreal. Taxpayers are on the hook to pay out settlements to victims who accuse lawmakers of wrongdoing? What is wrong with the state telling these elected officials that they are on their own?
I understand using state funds to defend lawmakers, otherwise every conservative politician would be the target of frivolous claims in order to bankrupt them and drive them from office. However, there needs to be greater disclosure and claims like this should be investigated by legislative ethics committees with the power to expel members for bad behavior.
