Chris Christie

Chris Christie: when a fat man falls, he falls hard. First he wanted to be president but it didn’t work out for him. Then he was briefly in charge of Trump’s transition but got fired. Then he was hoping to be Attorney General but “Uh uh,” said Trump. Finally, he was willing to settle for being head of the RNC but apparently Trump has other ideas there, too.

  • I voted for this guy. Twice.

Here's the problem he now has, and the major reason why even Rep's have a very low approval rating for him. It's his going-away present to the residents of NJ: a $0.23/gal gas tax increase.

We are one of the highest-taxed states in the country. The ONLY saving grace we had was one of the lowest (2nd-lowest?) gas taxes in the country. Now it's the 7th highest, to go with highest or nearly highest in everything else. So with all the money that the state, counties, and municipal gov't's are already taking, they formed a "Transportation Trust Fund", and proceeded to piss the money away - on the usual stuff - pay-for-play, bribes, and other corruption.

I personally don't work on gov't contracts directly, but I do as a sub-contractor. Trust me, everybody knows, when you're doing a gov't job, you bid at least twice as high as any private contract. I worked in an engineering co., in the private half. On the gov't, the highway design side, guys told me, they'd be given a half hour of work and told "make it last the day". This while we on the private side were pulling all-nighters, back in the 80's. The chief engineer would have the draftsmen draw up his private, side-jobs on the taxpayers' dime. One field crew would go out to a highway layout job (Route 24 in Morris Co, NJ), which was at least an hour's drive, and on /Friday, they'd be back at noon to pick up their checks and that was it. 8 hours of field crew time at back in the 80's, about $120/hr, and about 2 hours of work. Then the workers would go home, and the party chief would go sell used cars at the family lot.

So Christie comes in, the big, bad US federal prosecutor, and what does he do when the money is pissed away? Clean up the corruption?

    Nooooo!

He says "here, have more money"

There it is, for all the rest of the country. Don't buy into any of the "I was a federal prosecutor, fighting corruption" crap. Sure he busted a lot of local politicians in the past. But that's the key word - "past"

    • Funny, we have a Republican governor in Michigan, too, and he also raised gas taxes (we're 18th highest now) and tried to raise our 6% sales tax... which by the way goes on top of the fuel tax when you're pumping gasoline. Remember when Republicans balanced budgets by cutting spending?

      • No, can't say as I do. Republicrats don't cut spending. It's against their religion. No real spending cuts will happen while people continue to vote for the lesser of two evils.
