Delingpole: Ship of Fools IV: Another Green Arctic Expedition Scuppered by Ice

Delingpole: Ship of Fools IV: Another Green Arctic Expedition Scuppered by Ice. It appears they made a titanic mistake.

A sailing expedition to the North Pole to raise awareness of global warming has been forced to turn back, 590 nautical miles short of its destination, after the yachts found their passage blocked by large quantities of an unexpected frozen white substance.

  • You see... you people don't understand drastic and dramatic changes in the weather that are unpredictable and outside of our control CLEARLY means that global... I mean "climate change" exists! This massive ice thingy appearing out of nowhere is a CLEAR SIGN that global... errr "climate change" exists! You see you disgusting climate atheists disgust me with your unbelief... umph!

  • Strange, for some reason I didn't see mention of this expedition being blocked on any of the dinosaur media sites. I found lots of hits about the departure of the mission. It's as if the media are reluctant to mention there's ice in the Arctic and that they have a pro-warming mindset. Nah, no way, they are totally objective about the climate over at the NY Times etc.

  • A few months ago I watched a whole multi-part documentary on a guy who attempted to get through the Northwest Passage on a sailboat. I howled all the way through. The narrator could not go five minutes without mentioning the dire effects of Global Warming, but the guy was constantly stopped by ice. He would mournfully mention all the great explorers whose sailboats were stopped by ice, whereupon I would scream at the TV, "So is this guy stopped by ice you idiot!" He finally ended up hitchhiking on some French family's catamaran sailboat when his own boat had to turn back, but they still couldn't get through until a Canadian icebreaker came and broke a way through for two big cruise ships. The catamaran and two other sailboats STILL almost couldn't make it through behind the cruise ships because the ice was closing back in faster than they could get through. In other words, after all was said and done, the Northwest Passage was just as impossible to traverse as it was back during the Sailing Age.

    • It's getting harder and harder to watch and enjoy shows in this genre anymore. Like you mentioned, they're using this platform to promote GW theory.
I can watch just about any show that features Alaska. But lately I've noticed them creeping in a bit of GW propaganda here too. I don't have issue when it's one of the people living there giving their opinion, so long as the don't focus on it too long, but I change channels when the narrator joins the chorus.

      • Yeah, I love nature shows but the nonstop ignorance about Global Warming that saturates every show makes me want to puke. Especially at times like this when it's so damned unnaturally cold in Michigan you have to wonder if the next ice age is dawning.

  • The ship successfully located and identified large icebergs which blocked the course to a complete mission.

  • One interesting takeaway from this article - 'climate scientists' apparently conduct their Arctic research from yachts.
