You better not go see Wonder Woman. I don't think you're strong enough to handle it. After seeing it last night, even I, a much higher evolved human being, had dreams that were inappropriate.

She is perfect for the role. She is Mediterranean, a soldier, etc...
Haven't seen it yet, but reviews say they toned down the red, white, and blue WWII hero she was born out of and made her more globally appealing. I think I'll wait for rental.
This was WWI which I thought made more sense and is more realistic. It was a good movie.
Her uniform is a matte less flashy colors of the US flag. Anyone seeing her (if it was real) in the battlefield would THINK "She's an American".
She was NEVER an American. She is from her own place and it is essentially a Greek culture. She adopted US "ways" in cartoons and shows, but the movie makes a great point that she/the Amazons are for the world, YET her uniform and her idealistic values all in all still is a good representation of the US YET she never ever sets foot in US, etc., the US as a culture is never presented to her when she leaves her home. As time goes by she becomes aware of the realities of the world and looses her idealism, I am thinking that once in a formed League she may have a rejuvenated sense of heroism as she spends more time among US people and culture... let'see.
Not all heroes have to be "American" and in truth heroes need to care about global issues, yet they can still have that US grit or fit in rather well into it. I thought that she had the Spirit well enough. I wouldn't dismiss this movie, because you want "an American" representation of Wonder Woman a la Carter.
Huh? Oh, you mean her boyfriend. He was an American attached to the Brits and it was World War I, not II. And yeah, you're correct, they just HAD to have them run into a Native American pal in Belgium (I mean, WTF was he doing in Belgium?) who said his people had everything taken away from them by his people, a gratuitous dig at America that was completely unnecessary. Fuckin' Hollywood, they're so stupid. I was watching a Longmire episode the other night and he and his deputy drove to Arizona to question someone, then drove back. Arizona from Wyoming. The idiots in Hollywood don't have maps they can look at? That's practically a thousand miles! One way! THEY'RE IDIOTS.
You're right, the Native American character was so out of place. As you put it, a gratuitous dig at America. It wasn't enough taking away Wonder Woman's American connections but they also had to put America down. I enjoyed the movie as a whole, but there were disappointments too.
I will give you the US native thing... the dig was unnecessary and not realistic considering the situation... if this was WWII and he was part of the Native American team, etc may have made sense.
I went to see the movie today. It was good but they changed it so much from the DC Comics. In the comics I read as a kid she was an original member of the Justice League. She was in Army Intelligence during WWII.
The movie got the prehistory right as far as her being Amazonian and having goddess powers but the Wonder Woman character, even in modern comics has gone through many changes. See my post below with links.

Your right, movies take a lot of liberties. Even Biblical movies suffer from it. I just hate to see it.

She wasn't a favorite when I read comics as a kid. I just remember she got her start in the U.S. Army. I hate the way they toned down the costume. No stars, eagle emblem, or bright colors. That's the way Hollywood is going. I guess world appeal sells more tickets. You're right, to enjoy a movie you have to park critical thinking at the door.
No. She got her start in her island. She just happened to get involved with the war but was not necessarily a US soldier like Capt America for example.
