You have to feel sorry for poor Ed Schultz. No one watches his television show. No one listens to his radio show. If it weren’t for websites like IHateTheMedia.com, no one would know he exists.
But Big Eddie has a solution for that problem. Socialize the airwaves. Give him as many stations as Rush Limbaugh.
The only problem with that theory is that no matter how many stations Ed was on, he would still have no listeners.
Here’s an edited clip of some of Ed’s more noteworthy rants from a recent show:
Schultz: It is a cultural war that’s taking place in America, you’re exactly right. And it’s being played out over the airwaves of America. And I hope the Democrats now turn to the Fairness Doctrine.
It’s time now for the Democrats to consider the Fairness Doctrine when you’ve got Rush Limbaugh out there saying, it’s, we’ve got to defeat these bastards. He is now openly admitting that he is going to work against and campaign against the Republican, against the Democratic Party and campaign against Obama, and he is motivating people with the microphone and he’s electioneering. Keep on talking, Rushsky! Hell, maybe I’ll get on 600 stations too, or how many you own or whatever.
The fact is, look, it’s not a level playing field when it comes to the audio culture of the country. Ownership has its privileges. When you own, I will be honest, if I owned 500 stations, the drugster wouldn’t be on any of ’em. And that’s just where it’s at right now. But maybe we have reached the point where the Congress needs to equal it out. Equal out the audience.
Schultz: Just keep in mind, there aren’t any poor people with microphones.
Schultz: And so, I think that, you know, hell, if we’re going to be socialist, let’s be socialist all across the board.
Ed’s slogan?
Equal time, not equal talent.

Come on Eric, for real, let's have a real discussion. What do you think?
I don't know. Let me consult Fox News.
I'm trying to have a discussion with you. Do you disagree? Why?
Well, I guess I don't understand any of this because I...
DON'T LIKE PAYING FOR OTHER PEOPLE'S STUFF.
That doesn't seem to answer the question does it? The answer is the doctor chooses the more expensive option because it accomplishes the goal of treatment plus it pays him more. It doesn't however, prove that he is a better doctor. It just proves that he provides the costliest treatment. Your problem is gone so you're happy with the treatment but it could have been done cheaper.
Whatever you say.
If you're going to a doctor and he can treat you by doing X and he can also treat you by doing X and Z, how do you know what's right? It's in his interest to choose the one that is more expensive, isn't it?
Take a look at this article and tell me what you think: http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2009/06/01/090601fa_fact_gawande?currentPage=1
I can afford it, so that's all that matters to me. You can go worry about a small percentage of the population and punish everyone else for their sake. I'll take expensive health care(which is paid for by employer, lucky me) if it means I don't have to wait to get a broken limb treated.
That small percentage is 10%, all of this was done for 10% of the population, some of which are illegal's. What happened to (simple)majority rule's ?
You wouldn't ever have to wait to get a broken limb treated. Strange that you want to pay more than you might otherwise have to. I'm pretty happy getting the same level of care and paying less than you. I guess you like to waste your money. Doesn't it seem like a better option that everyone is covered AND you're paying less?
In Canada, all doctors get paid the same. The good ones do. The bad ones do. Here in America, you usually get paid more for doing better. that's called "incentive". You see, it's easier to tell if a doctor is good at his/her job by how much he/she gets paid. In Canada/UK/Sweden/France/etc., you have a harder time telling. Not only do you not know which one is good, there's also less because they get paid less. Why do a high pressure job for less money when you can do a lower risk job for more? If I'm paying more, I can feel at ease that I'm not getting my care at Bargain Bob's Health Depot.
And you obviously don't read. Under this, I'll be getting worse treatment if I need it, I'll be paying for everyone else's health care, and I'll be paying my own as well. How would you feel paying for my car insurance if I couldn't afford it, and I got in accidents that totaled my car? You'd be mad. That's how I feel about paying for other people's health care. I'm not paying for someone's treatments, I'd rather pay for my own. Call me Scrooge, but sorry Timmy. I'm not paying for your sickness through "the Man".
I'm sick of arguing with someone who doesn't read. Even my stupid liberal friends understand this health care bill is bad for the country. If even they don't like it, I know it's bad. I've read it, I know it's bad. 1 of them read it, they know it's bad. 2,000 pages. A waste of my time, but at least I know it's garbage.
PS I come from a family of Canadian doctors and all doctors don't get paid the same. They bill like American doctors do but it's to a single payer insurance provider (the province) whose payments for procedures are typically less than in the US. My mother actually makes more than most GPs in the US with the new Ontario bonus' they are giving out for preventative work.
So in America how do you know if one doctor is better than another? It's just by how much they make? And how do you determine that?
That's not really true. Nobody is left to die. Sometimes there is a wait for non-emergency services. The trade off is having cheaper coverage for everyone, or super-expensive (soon to be out of control expensive) coverage for the rich.
They also get put on a MONTH LONG WAITING LIST.
Sam, Sam, Sam... you just don't get it. Do you know WHY doctors want their jobs? The pay. It's bad enough they need to get their insurance due to "malpractice", but now they're going to get less. Doctors are doctors because the job pays unbelievable well, even though there can be risk involved. Now what it the pay is substantially lowered? They're going to realize that they still have the same risk, but less profit. Money makes the world go round, not socialized health care.
Government involvement is horrible wrong. The founding fathers said it themselves, the Government isn't there to rule, it's there to govern. Governing doesn't involve taking over business(which is what health care, health insurance, and yes, GM, are). I know a lot of people, both liberal and conservative, that think our whole Government is either on the border of being or is unconstitutional, and I'd agree. Let's look at Medicare. When it was passed, there was nothing said about Medicaid, but later down the line, they made that, as it was piggybacked by the bill. If you look at these two programs and compare them with private insurers, you'll notice something. The government programs rejected more people than the private companies. So what makes Obama Care any different?
You may or may not believe that corporations don't care about people, but you do realize that a lot of these hospitals and research centers are funded by the wealthy. Take Grand Rapids, for example. You've got nearly everything paid for by the Van Andel's and the DeVos', from arenas to childrens' hospitals. They are in the community, they know what it needs. The government doesn't know it's governed lands as well as the people who live there. They aren't in touch. That is why they can never do jobs as well as the people. They aren't meant to. They make laws, regulate laws, and issue punishments when laws are broken. They deal with War, they deal with transportation, and they deal with foreign relation. As far as with money, all they're needed for is regulating the currency, making sure each state doesn't have a different currency. That is their job. That's all the involvement we need.
That was well said.
Why do you think people in France, Canada, the UK, Sweden, the list goes, aren't rising up to revolt against having social health coverage?
It's because they like it. The doctors in these countries get paid less than in the US but still much higher than the average person.
I was actually talking to a friend about this. The reason that it (kind of) works there is because they have such smaller populations. We have 300 million people. How many people do France, Canada, UK, and Sweden have individually compared to us?
I'll save you your time.
France: ~65,500,000
Canada: ~34,000,000 (Note, people there come HERE for treatment, it takes about a month to get a good doctor for a broken bone AND, they're trying to go towards what we have[had])
UK: ~62,000,000 (Same time to get a treatment as Canada)
Sweden: ~10,000,000
As you can see... even combined, those 4 have less people than us. Also, considering we have 300 million people, is 12 million really that many? There's always people willing to help with these things, too. I know my church helps out if people are having hard times. I know other churches do too. I know many rich families will donate tons of their money to charities that help people in need as well. We don't need to punish those with moneys because those without it need help.
An what feature of smaller populations make people happy about socialized healthcare?
Doesn't cost as much for them. Less people who can already afford it are paying for less people who need it. It's not like us where 280 million are paying for 12 million. Get it? 96% of our country is paying for the 4% who doesn't have it. Also, the bill that's $940 billion is only covering that 12 million. That's $78,333 per person. Which is ridiculous. There's no way we need that much to cover people. And how is this gonna lower premiums like Mr. President said? It won't. He lied, people's wallets died.
The problem with the US is that the private system puts all of the wrong incentives in place for doctors. That's why US healthcare costs more than double anywhere else in the world. A doctor in the US has an incentive to perform as many tests as possible so he can make the most out of it. If there was a test he could perform to determine your problem he will do two. Canadians have a higher life expectancy than Americans so we're not getting a lower standard of care, we just getting it cheaper.
Every Canadian pays for their health through taxes.
