Second to last paragraph: "The high cost of wind doesn't worry enviromentalists..." mostly because they aren't paying for it.
Hopefully the new EPA guy will halt the stupidity.
Other countries that got into offshore wind turbines ahead of us are backing off as fast as they can. If construction and maintenance is expensive for regular wind turbines, you can imagine how bad it is when they're out in the North Sea.
Machinery breaks. I'll cut them slack when it happens, tho only to a certain extent that it's not faulty equipment and technology from the start. Which most green technology is. But yeah, put barely functional technology out in a saltwater environment and you're likely going to quadruple your maintenance costs and breakdowns. As hard as it is to scale a wind turbine on solid ground, imagine how much more difficult that will be when accessing one from a boat that is pitching in rough seas. Add even more down time due to inaccessibility because of rough seas.
