How pathetic and spiritually lost are mainline Protestant denominations

How pathetic and spiritually lost are mainline Protestant denominations? At the recent General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (USA), they opened the meeting with a prayer to Allah.

  • Any organization can be infiltrated and turned. The catholics and mormons are no better, neither is the GOP.

This is an excellent reason why the TEA party needs to remain an amorphous movement rather than a party. There have been several attempts my establishment puppets to assume "control" over it.

  • The PCUSA was far down the path of apostasy when they accepted women as pastors/elders. I know of NO church that has recovered from that position.

  • I consider myself a non-denominational Christian. I was raised Catholic but the priest at the church we went to asked my mother to stop bringing me when I was six after I developed epilepsy because my seizures disrupted services.

I became a Baptist when I was a teenager. The pastor at the time was booted for embezzlement back in the early 80s. Around ten years later, one of the deacons there killed his wife with a shotgun then himself. Then you had the Catholic priest pedophile scandals. I once worked with a guy who was a deacon at his church but acted like a horse's ass when he wasn't there. He didn't carry himself the same way outside of church.

I finally said F it. I try to follow The Ten Commandments. All three major monotheistic religions recognize them, they are ten basic rules for living that tell me all I need to know. If I do or say something that I know was wrong(I try not to) after the fact. When I do, I ask for forgiveness from either the person I wronged, God or both.

That's in my case, I'm not trying to speak for anyone else or anything.

    • I've always said that denominations as settled by people, were inventions that did more harm than good. It ends up being about it than about Christ. As long as lazy fools follow the denominations teachings they think they are good, no they ain't they are lukewarm people and we know that is not a good look. Then when the denominations teachings don't make it possible for them to do the sin or activity they want, they CHANGE the denomination policies. It is sick.

I am not "spiritual", don't know what that means as we all have spirits regardless of beliefs... I have decided to follow Messiah Jesus so that makes me a Christian, in fact a Jewish denomination if one speaks frankly, but it is of course not seen as such. We are not perfect and can't attain perfection nor salvation through religiosity prescribed by errant human beings. It makes no sense, if we could then the Savior did not have to live and die AND Resurrect.

      • Sorry but meant for Dave K

I read once to never judge Christianity through man for you will be disappointed every time. Christ is the example all Christians should strive for. Being with other like minded Christians helps me in my faith. Praise, worship and studying Gods word with others is encouraged by Jesus.

"For where two or three have gathered together in My name, I am there in their midst."
        Matthew 18:20.

But as you stated "That’s in my case, I’m not trying to speak for anyone else or anything."

        • You're right. I sympathize with Dave but came back to the church for a very pragmatic reason. When my older daughter was rebelling as a teenager and she would no longer listen to me, I realized that I had failed to provide her with the backup source of reason and restraint (by which I mean the church), which my parents had provided me. So I got my lazy ass back to church and made sure her younger sister DID have that backup. And I have to say, I ran into the same hypocritical assholes I despised when I was younger, but now I was more mature and didn't flip out at the obvious fact that most of the people in church are as fallible and human as I am.

          • There is nothing like a group of believers praying for you or yours when up against a dire situation.
I will admit I am not perfect. You will never find the perfect church but there are churches that have believers and faith as a mustard seed can move mountains.

    • I agree with your decision.
I was raised Catholic, but quit going when I left home. I consider myself "spiritual but not religious". I have no need for someone that is imperfect, telling me what I should be doing with my life. I try to live as close to the teachings I have learned, as I can.

  • My Pastor, Southern Baptist, commented on this during Wednesday night service. He strongly condemned it stating it was a sign of the coming apostate church and end times. Find a good Bible believing church that teaches the truth.

And let us consider how to spur one another on to love and good deeds. Let us not neglect meeting together, as some have made a habit, but let us encourage one another, and all the more as you see the Day approaching Hebrews 10:24-25

    • I maybe going insane, but I feel it... even though I know it could be a millennium from today that He does Return... I don't know... I just feel it strongly. At the least I believe that things are being set up for "the" antichrist*. Which of course does mean that THE Lord Christ (Messiah) will FINALLY take His Mantle of government and put it on His Shoulders so He can have His long awaited uncontested Rule.

It will be a glorious and terrifying Day and I have to admit I can't wait. I do appreciate this life and want to live it as much as possible as any human would. I know I will have a lot to do G-D willing in His Kingdom or at least I hope, it is going to be very fulfilling and exciting eternity. I thank G-D that He gave me a moment of His time to think of my existence so I can be part of it. I know that I am undeserving.

*I am sure many Christians and even Jews who understand their own texts can perceive that things are being put in place for "the" antichrist (since there have been so many) and his or her one world scheme. A lot of us are going to die and suffer. We must be ready and between growing our own foods and finding Bible centric communities to be in or around and of course arming oneself, that is all that we can do.

      • I agree. My best friend and I talked about the same thing over thirty years ago. The time is coming if you believe in the book of Revelations.

I'm pretty sure all of The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse have been checked off the list by now. It just didn't happen overnight.

        • It wouldn't surprise me if the things in Revelations have been happening all along

      • I feel the same way although my church as well as most Baptists believe the church, or collectively the true believers, will be raptured or taken up to be with Christ before the really bad stuff starts. I'm not so sure there will be a pre-tribulation, mid or post. I guess I'm pan-tribulation, it will all pan out in the end. We will definitely be with Christ for ever.

  • I have never been much for church or organized religion, too many self-righteous hypocrites involved. The church elders, leaders, preachers, whatever they call themselves, have no problem preaching about God, Jesus, salvation and sacrifice while wearing $1000 suits and $500 Italian loafers. Looking at the parishioners in the pews you see a lot of $30 Wranglers and $100 shitkickers that double as work boots the rest of the week and the preacher needs money for his "good works"? At the same time he/she tells the sheeple their way is the only way to salvation? I don't think so.

      • The best point the author made is no man is perfect, only Jesus is, that is what people should concentrate on. Put in my words but you will get what I am saying. The important thing is to concentrate on Christ, not men and what they have to say. Which is what I have done for a lot of years, concentrate on who was, and is, really important instead of what fools proclaim.

    • There are some shysters, but there are also some very good pastors that serve the Lord and as Christ commanded Simon son of John, feed his sheep.

      • True, there are quite a few pastors around here that run small food banks out of their hall.

      • Oh, there are. It's not my place to judge them but if they don't live by the rules they preach, I will stop believing what they're saying and I've seen plenty of that. There are likely more true believers than hypocrites or frauds but they're out there.

    • An earnest prayer to legitimate Saints and Apostles (which is of course one of the many issues Protestants have against Catholics) is far more acceptable to me , even though I am completely against it, than a prayer to a moon god at the very least... and at the worst... you know who...

  • So one of these days some smelly Mohammed wanna a be is going to walk into a church of theirs and BOOM!...Lots of dead religious folks...Who turned the other cheek while forgetting to take an Eye for an Eye...

  • No wonder the Goat Rapers are taking over, these people have lost their spine.

    • The Presbyterians lost their spine years ago along with a growing number of members. It started when their elders decided women should be allowed to be preachers followed by their acceptance of gays, including marrying them in the church, and their denouncement of Israel.
