  • Normal married people get penalized..The freaks who like to screw kitchen appliances and marry them get a tax break....What a mess this country has become..and the brownshirts at the IRSS just keep screwing with normal folks in the name of democratic socialism..

  • I bet the IRS doesn't apply the marriage penalty to same sex couples, because that would discriminate against them.

  • This is not surprising. They have been penalizing married couples for a long time.
If you are on Social Security, and get married, you get less SS than if you were single.
As far as the mortgage interest deduction, it has never benefitted me. I never had enough deductions to itemize. Fortunately, that doesn't keep me from deducting business expenses, which are much more than mortgage interest. BTW, that is now a moot point. Last week, I finally got my settlement for my car accident. Although the insurance company screwed me out of $70 grand, I still got enough to pay off the mortgage, and buy a decent used truck, leaving me a few grand for savings.
