  • My brother retired to PA awhile back and he said they also banned free refills for fountain drinks. WTF, did Bloomberg crawl out from under a rock and resurface in PA?

    On the flip side, maybe this cuts down on the drug trade there because pretty soon you'll see a lucrative black market for sweetened beverages.

    Years ago they tried taxing the cr@p out of Mary Jane to try and discourage its use. How'd that work out, control freak health Nazis?

  • You know, now that I look at that regular sales tax, that's pretty damn high, too. Jeez. This is why I will never live in a big city again--you're governed by idiots and budding despots.

  • What's next, candy, pastry? Seems the soda industry should be filing some kind of discrimination lawsuit.

    • And entrepreneurs will start buying soda by the truckload elsewhere and selling it on Philly street corners, like they sell cigarettes on street corners in New York. People aren't stupid. If you drink Coke and you're gonna be outside the city limits for a business meeting, you'll simply buy a few cases of Coke before you head home. Merchants within the city limits will see their sales plummet, politicians will feel the heat, same ol' same ol'. Democrats are incurably stupid.

        • And why was Eric Garner selling loose ciggys when he died in police custody? Sell ciggys that were purchased elsewhere & brought in to be sold at a cut rate. Why is this viable? The insane taxes placed on tobacco products in NYC.

          There will be a black market for soda in Philly, bet on that. There will be a priority on enforcement because it is a revenue issue. Murder...whatever, it's called "Killedelphia" for a reason. Just don't undercut the city's attempts to extort the population.
