  • A few things...

    1. Everyone involved seems to be less then truthful.

    2. Lochte looks like an idiot.

    3. In 3 world or "developing" nations, they often times have financial problems. Too often, some people who work for the gov't, & those in law enforcement, don't get paid much, & often times, don't get paid on time, if at all. So they resort to fake arrests & using trumped up charges, & are willing to look the other way if people pay a "fine". The civilized world would call it a bribe, & that is extortion, or black male. I think this is in play as well.

  • It is my understanding that he just told his Mother what had happened, but perhaps made it seem more than it was (perhaps) or he told it from his perspective which was accurate but not the whole story. SHE was the one that told the media or at least told others through social media and the media picked it up that her son was robbed. Then he made a statement about it. Either he shouldn't have told her, or he should have told her to not repeat what he said to the media, not post it and tell family members if she says something not to repeat to avoid issues especially since he and the others at the time were still in Brazil. Had he or she or both together been more discreet this wouldn't have been an issue.

  • If Lochte hadn't blown this up, it might be easier to believe him.
I don't know which way to go on this.

  • I seem to recall the Brazilian police telling people to stay away from the Olympics because they weren't being paid, and couldn't guarantee their safety. So it's not much of a stretch to believe that cops are moonlighting as security guards and kinda sorta pushing the envelope on "retributions". And anyone that's carrying their pistol in their waistband instead of a holster pretty much fits an armed robber description.

Kudos to Hot Air and USA Today...actual journalism, for once...

  • I didn't know until I read this link that the two "security guards" were cops but my comment from the other thread still stands: when you point a gun at someone and demand money, that's armed robbery. Whether you're a cop or not.
