Merkel ready to negotiate auto tariff cuts with all countries. It looks like in spite of all the whining, screaming, bitching and moaning (yes you Harley-Davidson), Trump continues to win.
“The negotiations mean lowering tariffs, which I will be prepared to do it not only with the United States,” said Merkel, who added that in order not to break the rules of the WTO, the negotiations must be done with all countries with which Europe has cars trade.

Yeah, the German auto companies surrendered to Trump weeks ago. It just took a while for Merkel to get her head out of her ass and get on board. The auto manufacturers have a huge influence in Germany. Huge. They represent a significant part of the German economy. When they told Merkel they would rather have no tariffs than have a trade war over tariffs, they meant it. Germany would disintegrate without the U.S. auto market.
Seriously, I don't think the Germans are risking much. I don't think Germans are going to rush out and buy tariff-free Chevys in any great numbers. If you've ever visited Germany, you know that everybody is driving around in Mercedes, Porsches, and BMWs. Mostly Mercedes. Driving a Chevy would be a step down for the average German.
