From the “What if a conservative had said it” department, President Obama joins Joe Biden in demonstrating his ignorance of American history.
Don’t know how this one has stayed hidden for so long, but President Obama did an interview with WTMJ-TV/Milwaukee back on Feb. 16, 2011. During that interview Obama claimed that Abraham Lincoln built the “intercontinental railroad” during the Civil War.
First of all, Mr. President, it was called the transcontinental railroad, not the intercontinental railroad. And it was built after the Civil War, not during the Civil War.
With this statement, the President joins his own Vice President in demonstrating complete ignorance on the same subject. Back in October, 2010, Joe Biden made even wilder and less accurate claims than Obama’s.
“Every single great idea that has marked the 21st century, the 20th century and the 19th century has required government vision and government incentive,” he said. “In the middle of the Civil War you had a guy named Lincoln paying people $16,000 for every 40 miles of track they laid across the continental United States. … No private enterprise would have done that for another 35 years.”
Despite the fact that both leaders’ historical references are completely inaccurate, we’re going to be generous in our assessments of the President and Vice President.
We’ll excuse President Obama because he may have going to school in Indonesia at the time he would have been learning the history of the transcontinental railroad in an American school.
And we’ll excuse Biden because he’s a moron.
There you have it – proof that conservatives are kind, generous people.

Forgive Larry, he bumped his cranium when he fell out of the ugly liberal tree, knocked the "tolerance" right out of him.
What the hell. What kind of discussion board is this? I found it by googling "intercontinental railroad" because I couldn't remember the proper term. Big whoops. What a bunch of pedantic, morose snarling nerds. Get a life punks. Are you trying to start a civil war over nothing? Right-wing fascist, regressive, primitive ooga-booga turds. Shut up.
So many liberals so little time.
This makes threat number two. In Argentina and Chile the reactionaries murdered every liberal they could get their hands on. It looks like America is turning into another banana republic.
Listen, olivia, your mask is falling off and this larry face was not big enough to hide your inflated upper sphincter anyway, so why bother? Threats? Any threat in this tread must be hidden deeply in a penumbra.
What a maroon!
If the Obama regime gets it's way we will.
its amusing when people blame one political party for the manufacturing of servitude right here at home..
the effort transcends parties
Shut up? Make me, punk.
Another satisfied customer.
What pedantic bullshit, Editor. The essential point is that a coast-to-coast railroad was authorized by Lincoln during the civil war. The fact that it was not called the "intercontinental railroad" and was built after the war. is inconsequential to the main point that the prototype of all Republican administrations intervened in the economy by subsidizing a business, and it established the first federal wellfare for veterans.
Look, he's even smart enough to put together an alt personality, so each of his postings can get one thumb up! What a brilliant little pointy headed liberal.
Look! Another 3,000%er! The Interstellar Railway (not to be confused with Donald Fagen's Trans Island Skyway - which has nothing to do with transsexuals) will be O's project next term. Get that pedantic swing moving!
He probably just got all mixed up after reading bedtime stories to the girls. "And the little train said I think I can, I think I can, with government help, I think I can".
It's Sunday. Just watch, the Jerk-off-in-Chief will pull some executive order s--t and try to cram tax hikes down our throats telling us we will default. (This is simply a LIE!!!) And the stupid useless media will nod their empty heads up and down, and so will the dumbed down American people. Guys, we have to become the guardians of our freedom.
Just imagine what history will say about Obama and the bullet trains to nowhere he is promoting. Boondoggle.
He gets away with this crap because 90% of the population doesn't know their own history any better than he does. The level of ignorance about American History is appalling, especially when you figure it supposedly gets covered multiple times in primary, middle, and secondary schools. And of course, is required at most state colleges and universities for graduation. Not true for private schools, of course.
Agree on general ignorance among US citizens. At least on elementary things. I don't agree with the private school comment. The reason they are private is because the education is expected to be superlative to public schools.
I think that last line was sarcasm.
I don't understand this comment. Do you really believe private schools teach less and are more constricted then public schools??
LOL
I detest private schools. They are run by nuns, effeminate men and self-important right-wing fools whose only motive is profit. The reason right-wingers are always badmouthing public education is so transparent I would think you would be embarrassed. If something is bad for business it is automatically evil, so public schools are evil. If global warming is bad for big oil, it doesn't exist. If government regulations preserving the environment is bad for business, the environment is just fine. Man is inherently evil, except for businessmen. Right? Morons! I was sent to a private school when I was little, and the filthy swine principle would self-righteously punish children for refusing to eat the nasty crap served at lunch. One little boy was forced to wear a dress and stand in front of the class. The other children laughed and laughed. They all grew up to be teabaggers.
Larry, public schools are actually quite good for the private school industry. As long as the kids get inferior education in the public schools, the private schools will be in demand and profitable.
So because you went to a lousy private school, all private schools are lousy? I guess they didn't teach you much logic in your private school. There are MANY private schools out there that don't have a nun on the property.
And you obviously don't even know the definition of teabagger.
Not at all. I am saying that while most state schools have nearly 2 years worth of "required" courses, including American History, Governmennt (and in my state, state government) private schools do not have these requirements. They have very few required courses, and one is able to "create" one's degree plan to fit the degree and your plans for that degree. For instance, Rice University has a set up for credit in overseas schools, to allow for exchange students. The cost of attending, housing, etc is covered by the tuition for that semester. One is responsible for flights to and from, and for personal spending money. My comment was not a negative reflection on any school, just on the the majority of students.
Cut Obama some slack, there be no intertranscontinental railroad in Reverend Elder Bishop Wright's black liberation theology class Obummer attended for 20 years. Can't a brudda get a break?
Honestly, you f***ing racist, can you please get the f*** off the site? You disgust me. You are a fowl-mouthed little prick who's mother needed to beat him more. Go back into your hole and rot.
Couldn't have said it better myself!
Nor I.
He disgusts me and I am dissapointed that he has found defenders on this site and that he has people thumbing him up. This post in comparison to others is "tame" but he is indeed a disgusting racist. Yes he has the right to say whatever he wants, but I don't think it is good for the site for him to be around, OR to go unchallenged.
He can say what he wants, but I'm with you. He should say it elsewhere.
I'm thinking Joe BITEME must be contagious.
Guys, PLEEZE. You are taking this all wrong. Totally wrong. Completely wrong. We should be humbled. Not only did the messiah build the Intercontinental RR, passing through all 57 states, as well as Alaska and Hawaii, but his nemesis Algore invented the internet, and global warming, (oh, wait, that's "global COOLING"). We should be humbled. Remember had he not spent two TRILLION of our dollars on his political corruptocrats our unemployment would be (GASP!!) above EIGHT percent!
