Open Warfare: Romney calls Trump ‘a phony, a fraud’; Trump calls Romney ‘failed candidate.’ Way to go GOP and Romney! Let’s give Hillary plenty of ad content for the election if Trump runs. We have little doubt we’re witnessing the end of the Republican Party. They’re committing suicide by stupidity. The Democrats must be rolling on the floor laughing at this whiny speech.

    • And THAT is the point! Mitt just disappeared the last couple of months of the campaign, and let Barky rule the discussion. If he had shown a bit of backbone, he might have energized the voters and won.

  • So I listened to Trump's response. Typical self-aggrandizing bullshit that completely avoids the issues under discussion. As usual. But to get to the crux of the matter, he's saying the same thing he's been saying in TV interviews, that he's filed his FEC-required financial disclosure forms and that's sufficient. Romney is correct, it is not sufficient. Financial disclosure forms are about wealth, not income, and the reports are in very broad ranges so there's a lot of fudging going on. "I'm worth over one billion and less than ten billion... probably" kind of stuff. We know Trump inherited wealth so we don't care that he's wealthy. Plus the reports make no mention of taxes paid or charitable contributions, which is what everybody really wants to know. Romney says he doesn't think Trump gives squat to veterans like he's been claiming, and the tax returns would show if he's reporting losses and therefore paying no taxes. It has become de rigueur to release tax returns when you run for president. Trump is the first in a long time to refuse.

    • Mitt is playing the Reid hand this time around and you applaud that? You hate Trump and that is reason enough not to vote for him, but now pretending Mitt is the man with the answers is just laughable.

      • Look, I don't have to like Mitt for president or like the hypocrisy of the Republican establishment to appreciate when someone makes a valid point. For years we've watched Democrat presidential candidates release tax returns that embarrass the hell of them because liberals are stingy and don't give to charity. That's a fact. The Obamas and Biden were ridiculously stingy. Mitt makes a good point: Trump is a liberal and he might be stalling on the tax returns because he's embarrassed by his lack of charitable giving. I appreciate that he's being audited, but that doesn't stop you from releasing the non-sensitive parts of the return: the adjusted taxable income, the taxes paid, and the charitable giving. Those three things would pretty much tell the whole story and wouldn't affect his audit.

          Cruz andRubio both released only the first two pages of their returns not showing any charitable giving

          • Cruz released 2006-2010 when he ran for senate and was criticized for only giving 1% to charity. Now he's released 2011-2014 without the Schedule A and is getting criticized for not showing his charitable giving at all. That's valid criticism. He needs to face that criticism. You see the problem though, right? While Cruz is getting criticized for what his tax returns show or don't show, Trump is cruising along with no intention of ever showing his tax returns at all. What is wrong with this picture? He brags about being a "world class businessman" almost once an hour. Well, prove it, Mr. Big Head. All I see are failed businesses and bankruptcies. And he also brags about how much he gives to veterans. Prove it! The money he pledged to veterans in his childish boycott of the Fox News debate never showed up!

          • I give to charity... but I don't claim most of it in my tax return... so on the face of it, it will show that I don't give to charity at all or very little but if you look at my bank account and the checks I write or the statements I get from the charities/church I can prove that I do give to charity. So I have to wonder if that is what is happening there. Just a thought.

          • I give to charity too, but don't even ask for receipts. I look at it like, if I get a tax break, it isn't really so charitable.

          • I get the receipts for record purposes, but that is how I feel, getting tax breaks feels uncharitable overall and why do I need to tell anyone which charities I support? I used to do it in the past, but to me I felt that if it is a true charitable act I don't need to get anything back and why expose my giving in the first place? So again in the eyes of a lot of people using only tax forms I am a very uncharitable person... so I wonder if this is what happened with Cruz or not.

          • All you see are failed businesses? You are a glaring example of just why Trump is doing so well. You are no more honest than he is but hold yourself above him. Half the money from the fundraiser has been distributed, and is being distributed as it comes in is his response.

            I am not a Trump voter, yet. I dont get a say in this being my state is too late to matter. If he is the nominee I will support him. But the smears and lies are just what keeps propping him up. How can a bunch of "smart" people not get this or not care. That political game is just not working, so far, this time.

All he is now is a mouthpiece for the RINO elites who are unhappy and having a waaaaaaaa fest because Jeb is gone. Brilliant move there Mittens, why don't you just endorse Hitlery so we can all live under the new Nazi Party.
