The NIH-funded study of children in Rhode Island is awaiting peer review and the authors of the study do not claim to attribute causation, but they suggest that stay-at-home orders, masking, and social distancing, which resulted in “missed educational opportunities and reduced interaction, stimulation and creative play with other children,” may have negatively affected early neurodevelopment.
