  This is simply a matter of interpretation which is a legitimate area for scholars. But I don't like the pope's REASON for modifying the interpretation and I think the pope's REASON is an example of why he is such a piss-poor spiritual leader. You're supposed to interpret the Bible as closely as possible to what you think the original divinely-inspired writer meant, not what you want the original writer to have meant. Duh. Does the English translation match what the Greek and/or Aramaic words say, or not? I don't know the answer. What I do know is what this asshole pope wants is irrelevant. Leave it to the language experts to hash out. We have plenty of religious leaders trying to make Christianity more convenient already.
