This is merely another "distraction tactic" to take the focus off Foxx and her clandestine relationship with Kamala and Obama ( who is quietly championing her ).

What Emmanuel has done here - probably inadvertently - is given Smollett an out: just blame it on Trump and all will be forgiven. However, Smollett shows no sign of having the brains to figure this out and will probably stick to his ridiculous story.
