Biden whispered in Obama's ear, "This is a big F-ing deal", when the ACA was passed because they knew it tightened the socialist strangle hold on America. Big government and socialism is just as important to many on the right as it is to all on the left. The speaker of the house is one of them. Single payer is the goal. Complete government control over every aspect of your medical care. What's sad is so many like buzzardcreek think this gives power to the people.

Reagan talked about how socialized medicine was thee gateway to really installing socialism in way that is hard to destroy. He said this in the 60's, before he ever ran for office.
SSDD, same flies. The healthcare bill is this nation's admission that near full employment is never to be heard from again ever since the banking industry showed us its slip in 2008. It's been bread & circuses from that day forward, and yes they will continue the rampage of the Middle East too. And no, at this point it probably really doesn't matter anymore. What's a few 10's of billions of dollars here & there when they're actively playing with trillions, seriously?
Now when Obamacare falls apart they can blame the Republicans for it and demand socialized health care. Brilliant guys, just brilliant.

This is bullshit. I don't think there's anybody on the planet I dislike more than Paul Ryan right now. This is a man who was placed in a historic position where he could have done the right thing on so many issues but HE JUST DOESN'T GET IT. Whatever he is, he is certainly not a Republican or conservative in any traditional sense. This bill leaves the federal government in charge of our health care and the federal government does not belong in that business.
Seems to me Ryan has been there long enough for the brainwashing and graft machines to take over his once fiscally responsible brain.
I have long thought that if you spend more than one term in congress, the pod people take over your body and brain.
Not to mention that the bill still subsidizes the profits of insurance companies (to the tune of 300 to 400 billion)...since when has that been a republican or conservative idea or value?
To be fair Ryan is in a tough position. He is simultaneously trying to appease moderate republicans and the ultra conservative. What could he have done differently? He had to ram the bill through the house before the CBO releases its report.

The CBO didn't do such a good job last time around.
Of course economic modeling is notoriously difficult to do because we live in an ex ante world, the rationality of actors is fairly bounded, it is impossible to perfectly know what the sensitivity parameters are and the knowledge problem in general. But then again the CBO isn't there to convince people that actually understand economics.
While I do agree that the CBO isn't the best, politicians do put a lot of emphasis on it.

The CBO is a joke. Number one, they insist on using static analysis which is like telling a driver he can't use the gas pedal. And number two, they're federal bureaucrats with all the liberal slant that all federal bureaucrats have. So every analysis they do underestimates the government's costs and overestimates the benefits to society of whatever government program is being analyzed.
Absolutely. I just think it is funny to hear people cite them as if it were the gospel. The only people that do that are ones who have zero knowledge of how modeling works, unfortunately that describes and awful lot of people.
Here's a strange thought: how about relying upon principle instead of what you think is politically palatable? How about standing up and listing all the nefarious methods used to pass Obamacare, all the things that are wrong with it, and then repealing it? How about standing up in front of those "ultra conservatives" and "moderate republicans" and telling them what the right thing to do is, why it's the right thing to do, and then doing it, regardless of the political consequences?
Most politicians' primary job (both democrats and republicans) is to get reelected.
If they have to compromise to put together a half as bill just to please moderates and ultra conservatives than they'll do that.
The average voter doesn't follow the issues in depth like you. They just turn on the TV and say "pass a bill or I won't vote for you in 2018).
