Tesla on “autopilot” crashes into back of parked fire truck on freeway. Public service message from IHTM: never trust your life to government-subsidized technology claiming it can drive your car for you. Never. You’d be safer with an Allahu-Akbar-yelling Somali cab driver.

When the car is put on autopilot, the drivers cell phone should be disabled. The drivers cell phone should be disabled anytime a vehicle is in motion. I'd put money on it being the reason for the crash. You still have to be attentive. The autopilot system even requires your hands to be on the steering wheel.
Lucky, with all those lithium polymer batteries, the thing didn't burst into flames. Those batteries tend to do that when exposed to air and moisture when ruptured.
Some spit and a little rubbing compound and she'll be good as new.
"Those Progressives sure build fine cars..."
They had a DUI on the Bay Bridge on autopilot.

I guess the good thing about a drunk-manned electric car on autopilot is it can only go about fifty miles before it will need a recharge.
Tesla 3's can go 249 to 310 miles on a charge depending on which battery you fork out for.
No. First of all, those numbers are probably from company literature which you know is inflated because why would they wax pessimistic about the one feature everybody knows is the weak point of the vehicle? Second, whatever the real best estimate is, that would be with brand new batteries that hadn't started deteriorating yet (as all batteries do) and let's also assume they just came off the charging station so the batteries were completely topped up to begin with. And third, the drunk guy had to get to wherever he was getting drunk so half the real mileage-per-charge has already been used up before he headed home. So where does that leave us? Somewhere between 50 and 100 miles in range... and that's assuming he doesn't get stuck in a traffic jam with his air conditioning on, in which case he might not get even 50 miles.
