The End of Poverty is a documentary that came out in 2009. According to imdb.com, the total domestic box office for this piece of crappola was – are you rady – a laughably low $57,805. Hell, they could have done that much business if the gals from Code Pink had decided to take in a matinee between protests. It took in so little money that The End of Poverty may have been the beginning of poverty for whoever financed it.
Let us sum if up for you briefly: Poverty is Wall Street’s fault. It’s Washington’s fault. It’s America’s fault. It’s capitalism’s fault. All that plus Martin Sheen as the narrator.
How did this dog not win a raft of Academy Awards? It has everything Hollywood wants to see, but nothing the American people want to see. And that combo is usually good for an Oscar or three.

Okay... it is sad that there is poverty in the world well abject poverty because in many ways poverty can be subjective. A poor person here is considered well off in another country and so on. However instead of pointing fingers, why not look for solutions? I bet the entire movie was about blaming and making people feel bad instead of finding solutions to the problems. The problem of worldwide poverty WILL NEVER be solved though that is just a truth, because there would always be corrupt governments, and leaders and greedy people and LAZY people, there would always be people with no families, handicaps, etc. However with that said solutions can be made one community at a time where they can be in a comfortable situatin without being in abject poverty. Focusing on real solutions and doing the work instead of finding fault is the right thing to do.

What the film is trying to do is miseducate the young and gulible by blaming western culture and more specifically capitalism so that the elites can feel good about themselves. They do not tell you that in truth the citizens of third world countries will remain poor not due to capitalism but rather the lack of it. As long as their governments control every aspect of the economy in such a country, and the citizens have no property rights, as it is with socialism, the governmental elites will have all the wealth and power and their people will continue to have nothing.
Exactly. Lack of true capitalism is one of the many reasons for the poverty in many countries... then we add political corruption, perhaps even religious corruption (you mean to tell me that muslims spent so much time converting a lot of African countries and considering how "rich" they are, Middle East muslims pretty much do NOTHING to help their African muslim counterparts?!). To that we add lack of personal responsibility and ambition, etc...

The kind of capitalism we are using victimizes people, and not just those in other countries. Much depends on whether you think that all of us are rightly equally entitled to natural resources, or whether you think nature provided them for some and the rest of us were created as second-class citizens.
"Our oil under their sand" -- if this makes sense to you, it is probable that you have no problem with policies and structures which impoverish many of the world's people.

Keep drinking the kool-aid. If it was about oil, we would be drilling in the southwest right here in the good old U.S.A. We have more oil there than in many other nations combined including Iraq, Iran, and Saudi Arabia

I think it is meant to help us reach out to others and to help us be humble and thankful in our circumstances, while helping others in theirs to the best of our ability. It helps with creating love for people which in essence is at the basis of the Judeo-Christian tradition. Someone will always have it worst than us, that will always be until the day that G-d decides it is to be over. In the meantime we got to do what we got to do, helping people as we can help them, knowing full well that there would be lazy people out there, greedy people out there and corruption and evil out there, until there isn't. Blaming people and making people feel bad is not a solution.

Oh come on. Can you ever "solve" poverty? Can you ever "solve" crime? Can you ever "solve" disease, unemployment, war, or any other societal herpes? Hell no. All you can try for is to make them manageable enough to allow people to get on with their lives. That's not cynicism, that's maturity. You can't stop the rain. All you can do is build a roof that you hope won't leak, or at least won't leak on the productive members of society. Ever since LBJ created "The Great Society", when has the entitlement segment of our population not demanded more power, more benefits, or more "community outreach program funds"? Those leaches are always whining about never having "what they need," but do they have to risk their home and family when the government raises taxes to support them? Do they have to explain to Suburban Peter why they're fleecing him to pay for Ghetto Paul?

Poverty is the result of stupid women having sex with jerks who run away - that is the elusive 'root cause' of poverty.
Sad but true that it is women who mandate how a community prospers OR not. If the women are downtrodden, poor, uneducated, slutty, immoral, etc then the community will get into crap and continue in crap, once you educate women, get them to run businesses, or help them run the financial parts of their household and teach them hygiene and other things then the community prospers. When the majority of females in a community fall into immorality (or they are kept uneducated) that means the death of the community prosperity, it is even in the Bible (which is incredible).
And a kid could probably overcome that if his mother only did that once, then kept on his ass about trying hard at school and not knocking up some other stupid kid, but each kid they pop out gets them more money (at least in Wisconsin), and the worse their school attendance the more they get bribed with iPods and other toys (at least in Milwaukee), so why bother?
