  • "They" is a plural.

    I won't call a person "they" unless he or she is suffering from multiple personality disorder.

    • No. Normally I would be with you, being conservative and particular in my grammar and syntax as well as in my politics, but singular they is actually proper use of the word. Singular they predates the notion of strictly plural they, as a matter of fact. We discussed this in my LinkedIn Publishing & Editing group. (And believe me, when that group discusses something they really discuss it.) Singular they goes way back, can be found in Shakespeare and earlier literature, etc. It solves a problem, in that English doesn't have any other pronoun that works when you don't want to specify gender. Russian, I understand, has a whole bunch of different genders, including neutral and unspecified, but English doesn't.

  • Okay so we all know that this was extortion right? Just like the cakes and the photography and the flowers. The bitch knew that he or she or whatever could get some easy money. This is what this was.

  • "Transmasculine?" Who the hell can keep up with the terminology? And how does this work, anyway? You wake up one morning feeling "transmasculine" and immediately fire off an email to all your friends, relatives, and co-workers, telling them what pronoun to use and what to call you? "Dear friends, I woke up this morning feeling a little peckish so I'm sending you this email..."

  • I suppose "it" is out of the question. This is going to turn the Willamette Valley into a trans magnet.
