  THE REAL KAMALA HARRIS!!!
  James Arthur Harris, better known by his ring name Kamala, was an American professional wrestler. Nicknamed "The Ugandan Giant", Kamala portrayed a fearsome and simpleminded Ugandan. He wrestled barefoot, clad only in a loincloth, his face painted with war paint and two stars and a moon painted on his torso. During his ring entrance, Kamala sported an African mask and wielded a spear and shield. He is best known for his appearances with the World Wrestling Federation over the course of numerous runs in the company between 1984 and 1993.

• I lived in the Santa Cruz Mountains for a few years when I was a kid. It wasn't unusual for the power to go out for several days. Always during the winter.

  We had an all-electric house, no heat, no cooking, no refrigeration, and no water because of the electric well pump. I could get water by the bucket out of the water tank.

  The only heat was a fireplace and it didn't heat much but we kept it lit. Coleman lantern for light or flashlights.

  Before my parents split mom could go cook in the camper my dad had. After he moved it was the Coleman stove, or go to Los Gatos or Santa Cruz for a restaurant.

  It wasn't that big of a deal because while it got cold, it never got THAT cold.

  It didn't bother me that much because I was used to freezing my ass off on hunting/fishing trips with dad. LOL.

• Woke kid up at midnight Sunday to see the snow in San Antonio. “Rolling” blackouts ensued. Though, power was on in fits and starts. Sink in kitchen froze, but we got lucky. Wednesday we had two large blocks of power. We bundled up, hung out with friends who kept power. Power also affected cell towers. Snowing again. We are getting more than we got on Monday. Kid is enjoying it.

  • Might as well make the best of you can of it. I try to prepare for the worst, hope for the best and then help those that I can when events like this happen.
    I am sure the pictures and limited news stories aren't doing this justice in the grand scheme of things. Makes me appreciate that all I have to worry about is having to do repairs on my snow thrower so I don't have to shovel it.
    I bet JP is laughing at me. "7 inches of snow is all you got? HA! That ain't nothing. Come on over to the west side of the state if you want to complain about snow."
    Prayers for you all down there going through all of this.

    • Yeah, I was staring out the back sliding glass door yesterday thinking, "Damn, that's a lot of snow!" It just sort of piles up when it's this cold. With nothing melting, even the light snowfalls pile up after a while. But relief is apparently on the way, the weather prognosticators claiming warmer weather is on the way.

      Meanwhile, my kitchen faucet stream has dried up to a dribble. I can't figure it out. I'm hoping it has something to do with the cold weather but I don't see how. Can pipes freeze inside a heated home?

      • Our sink did that too. Water came back when the heat was on long enough to actually warm up the house.

      • If the pipes are on the outside wall inbetween the studs, they sure can. I remember as a kid in our non-insulated Detroit house that happened. The kitchen sink hot and cold pipes were in between the studs for the outside wall. Ended up cutting them and then moved them so they came up through the floor under the sink.
