  • I see how this works, if you don't agree, as in your case for hedonistic reasons, you can simply down-vote the comment and it's hidden. Kinda like the liberal left, bury you head in the sand when a topic that run contrary to your "enlightened" ideology is expressed. Sounds very cowardly to me. But then, what did I expect...I'm communicating with a bunch of adolescent middle-aged men who take pleasure in assaulting children and the elderly with their thuggish loud motorcycle noise while clamoring for attention like a juvenile.     • Oh gee, you remind me of those cheep assed BMW riders I used to have to deal with. Always showing up to all the dealership open houses, strutting around like your crap doesn't stink, and wasting everybody's time because not a single one of you would spend a dime, you're just there for the free food.
      While the loud pipes are a pain in the ass, there are laws that nobody seems to be enforcing, start with that.

        • I guess an elitist like you has never heard of the Memorial Day Run in Angel Fire, NM. I realize some Marines aren't the sharpest pencil in the box so I'll educate you.

          Angel Fire is the site of the original Vietnam Veterans Memorial built by Victor and Jeanne Westphall in honor of their son, David, who was killed in 1968. Over the last 20 years or so hundreds of thousands of "thug-biker-bully" types have been meeting there to show their respect for all veterans. I have been going there almost since the beginning and never, ever, has there been a problem. I had family obligations and could not go this year but friends did and it was a smaller than average turnout, only 6000 or so bikers were there.

          This is just one example of a thug-biker-bully rally. You really should get off your high horse and check out of few for yourself. Most rallys are held to collect money for very worthy charities, like the St. Jude Childrens Hospital, Wounded Warriors Project, Toys for Tots, cancer research, the list goes on and on. You can even ride your Beemer if you want because in the long run none of us really care. As long as you are there to support the charity you can ride a Moped.

          • The loud bikers philanthropic endeavors DO NOT defer his/her culpability relevant to their "thuggery" when operating an illegally loud, illegally equipped, motorcycle. I don't care if you've served in the Patriot Guard, volunteered for a thousand toys-for-tots benefits, if you ride loud, if you assault our children, our elderly, our families with your unregulated motorcycle exhaust noise...you're a thug-bully, selfish, hedonistic, and a blot on the fabric of society.           • Not to mention the biggest rally in honor of Veterans in history, Rolling Thunder. Which has been growing and growing since it's inception, and is the single biggest motorcycle event that is a salute to the men lost in Vietnam. But then, asshole MickeyD wouldn't degrade himself to go to such an event. I have been several times when I lived in NJ, but the ride from Florida is a little more than my tired bones can handle. Besides, my service connected disability makes it impossible to ride with a helmet, since the damage to my neck has progressed to the point that wearing a helmet is extremely painful. One of the reasons I moved to Florida.

          • Loud pipes save lives MickeyD, it's been proven, analyzed, written about, looked at up one side and down the other, and everyone pretty much agrees.

            I'm not talking about drag pipes, they are way over the line, but the only way a biker can be heard on todays highways is with a loud exhaust. People in their little show boxes run around with the windows up, their boom boxes blaring, the air conditioning blowing, talking on their cell phones, not paying any attention to the road at all. The only thing they might hear while they are wobbling all over the road is the pipes on my bike, which may keep me from hitting the ditch or eating the pavement.

            You don't like loud pipes? Get a law passed against boom boxes in cars that can be heard 2 blocks away. Outlaw cell phones in every way, shape and form. No "handless" devices, nothing. Do away with all GPS units and anything else that takes the drivers attention off of the road. If drivers didn't have so many distractions in their cars maybe they would pay attention to what they are doing, driving a 3 ton bomb on a public road or highway, and we bike riders might not need to have loud pipes to get their attention.

          • Please whiskeyriver, don't bring up the tired old mantra, a lie actually, that Loud Pipes Save Lives LPSL. The LPSL myth is nothing but an excuse for bad, irresponsible, behavior.

            There is no need to pass new legislation regarding vehicular noise. There are Federal, State and a plethora of local ordinances to counter the vehicular noise plague in America. I am currently working on approaching the Civil Courts relevant to suing enforcement agencies for nonfeasance.

            If you are so terribly concerned about the caged public and feel that riding around like a noise thug is the ONLY alternative to your safety...might I suggest selling the bike and purchasing a Hummer. You have, with volition, opted to operate an inherently dangerous vehicle on the roadways of this Nation. You have NO right to modify your motorcycle's muffler because you "think" if will make you safer.

            If we carry your LPSL logic to its logical conclusion, then we must put sirens on bicycles and mopeds. We must require that all vehicles under a specified gross weight be operated continuously with their horn activated. If Loud Pipes Save Lives, I guess the Honda Goldwing riders, the BMW LT, RT, GS, riders are dropping like flies...no, actually these quiet riders are among the safest and most professional, respectful, riders on the road.

          • That is the proof that he's a "wannabe" biker. He never rode on a highway with the oblivious assholes in their Prius' and Volts. Having been a truck driver, I can attest to the fact that car drivers have their heads so far up their asses that they might not even hear your loud pipes, which is why I have saved more than one biker's life by laying on my air horn to wake up the oblivious idiots like MickeyD.

          • Personally I don't ride, haven't in years, don't care to anymore. The loud pipes do help. They give people a heads up your coming. This is especially important in California where lane-splitting is legal. I see people move over and give a rider some room every day and the reason most do it is because they hear the bike coming because they're too busy watching where they're going in stop and go traffic during rush hour.

            I appreciate what you're saying because I live within rock throwing distance of a biker bar. I hear H-D's every night. There's all kinds of other noise too. Cars with loud pipes, lawn mowers, power trimmers, boom boxes, etc.

            You can whine all you like you'll never get rid of it. It's a lot easier not to be Captain Loud Pipes America and just deal with it.

          • Helicopters, like large commercial vehicles, are specifically designed for a unique purpose and the noise emitted is related to their functionality and purpose. When you can patrol 500 - 700 square miles in two hours, locate and pursue wanted felons through the forest, the waterways, on roof-tops...relevant to the commercial vehicles...when you can transport a payload measured in metric tons...we can talk about your noise...your motorcycle came equipped with a compliant, EPA approved muffler for a reason...it was regulated to emit the maximum safe db(a) for the general public...ride respectfully, don't be a loud biker-bully.

  • You could not be more incorrect. I've owned, operated, maintained, 31 motorcycles over the years, ridden professionally for years...accumulated hundreds-of-thousands-of-miles on motorcycles. I too am "former military," USMC, retired 31.5 year veteran of the Houston PD, commercial helicopter pilot.

    You see, real men, honorable men, don't ride around on their illegally equipped motorcycle, dressed like a reject from the Village People, assaulting our children, our elderly, our families, with excessive, illegal, unregulated, exhaust noise. Military veterans and police officers alike ought to be ashamed of themselves if they participate in the motorcycle thug-bully gangs and act like a middle-aged adolescent...while disobeying their oath taken at the inception of their service, an oath to uphold the Constitution...not wipe their butt with it!

      USMC retired, if you joined at 17, that would make you at least 35 when you got out.
      31.5 year veteran of Houston PD, if you joined right after your retirement, that would make you 66.5 when you left the PD
      Professional motorcycle rider with "hundreds of thousands of miles under your belt". Then commercial helicopter pilot.
      That would make you about 80, giving you credit for way more miles on a bike than you could possibly manage.

  • Another story on the "Infidel Biker Gang" as they endeavor to prove who is the bigger "terrorist." I find it hilariously ironic that these leather clad bullies possess the hubris to defile a Muslim Holy Celebration while riding around on illegally equipped, illegally LOUD motorcycles, dressed like a Village People reject and assaulting our children, our elderly, our families with their noise and leather get-up intended to intimidate...this without any semblance of conscience or respect.
