            The main difference is most of us here don't take any talking point for granted, we look into it ourselves. In doing so, we have found that liberal talking points are for the most part asinine, based on false data, or outright lies twisted to suit their agenda. Most of what you posted here is a great example. Long on talk, very short on facts.

        • Actually you have presented talking points. Inaccurate and incomplete talking points. Your grasp of labor statistics is poor. You need to look at things like the U6 and labor participation rate not the U3, which is actually 7.6 not 7.4. I won't do your homework for you but you brought a knife to a gunfight. Keep posting though, it's always good to hear from the other side.

          • Actually, it is the same formula used to calculate unemployment under Republicans - so the comparison is apples to apples and not apples to oranges as you try to make it.

            I didn't bring knife or gun - just common sense.

          • How do you explain the hundreds of thousands who are no longer on the unemployment rolls, they cannot get any more benefits, or those who had to take jobs that pay less and are no longer getting benefits?

          • Or take an early retirement? Personally, I'm glad I did, but that doesn't mean I voluntarily left the workforce.

          • Hmmmm, again your points are inaccurate.  Unemployment was 7.8% on 1/20/09.  It shot up to 10% after the Stimulus became law despite assurances that the U3 would not go above 8% if Stimulus was passed.  The U3 is/was artificially low since it excludes people looking for work for more than four weeks.  The rate is also low because the labor force has shrunk to a 30 year low, which actually makes the U3 that much more misleading (read low).

            By the way, using U3 is the government's way of painting a false and optimistic view of the labor market.  You may or not be aware of that since you appear to think BHO has lifted employment, which he absolutely has not done nor has he fostered an economic or regulatory environment to do so.  

            Tell me, why you're here as an antagonist if your'e not going to be factual, which is not the same as saying you are being factual.

        • There are more people on food stamps and welfare because of high unemployment that started out around 10% at the end of Bush's second term and is now 7.4% under Obama AND because Mega-Corporations have carved out tax loopholes while sending jobs overseas where they can pay 50 cents an hour for labor under sweatshop conditions. It's called GREED and it isn't from the poor. Most of the very wealthy pay NO TAXES either - and unlike the poor scraping by paycheck to paycheck and barely feeding their families - these people can actually afford to pay taxes. They are robbing the American people of jobs and revenue that could be invested in education, research, infrastructure, jobs, etc.

          Also, there would be less unemployment if Republicans would spend more time focusing on JOBS and less time attacking Unions, Gays, the Obama Administration, and Planned Parenthood.

          Republicans 2012 campaign: jobs, jobs, jobs (and yet they haven't passed one single jobs bill!!!) What they HAVE done is tried 37 times to repeal Obamacare (knowing there was no chance of succeeding) and wasted billions of tax payer dollars trumping up every "scandel" they can latch on to.

            They still spent every dollar that came in and the government still grew at its democrat party mandated under Carter 7% nominal or more.

            Since Liberty Belle doesn't seem to be able to tell the difference, I will explain.
            A budget surplus is the exact opposite of a deficit.
            Therefore, During the Clinton administration was the federal budget balanced? Was the federal deficit erased? Are both the same question, and since Clinton had no control over either, because the economy was chugging along nicely as a result of the Reagan and Bush I admins, and the House and Senate were under the control of the Republicans under Clinton. He was nothing more than a figurehead and a pervert. The economy began to contract at the end of his term because of the dot com bubble bursting. He had no more to do with that than he did with creating the dot com boom.
            Now, the debt. Under Clinton the debt went from:
            ■Jan. 20, 1993: $4,188,092,107,183.60
            ■Jan. 20, 2001: $5,727,776,738,304.64

            It has long irritated me that people try to use budget deficit/surplus as an argument when we are talking about debt.

    • No, America is living on a credit card underwritten by China.
      Problem is the China economy is starting to contract, and they will come here looking for repayment, and they will be setting conditions for repayment, such as forms of payment.
      They won't be looking for cash, but for resources such as food, water, fuel, etc. We will be a 3rd world country before too long since we are in reality one of the poorest countries, if you include debt into the equation.

They act like social security is welfare (it isn't) that is bankrupting our country (it isn't). They act like food stamps are our major expenditure (it isn't) that mostly benefit immigrants or minorities (it doesn't). They never point out how the wealthy have used lobbyist to carve out special tax treatment, use tax shelters to avoid paying taxes, or get taxpayer funded subsidies (corporate welfare). Money that could be invested in education, transportation, infrastructure, etc. Out of every tax dollar paid to the IRS less than one penny goes to food stamps or programs to help children and the poor. And people that receive public assistance or food stamps are both Republican and Democrat. There are just as many Republicans receiving government assistance as Democrats! So your theory that the 50% vote Democrat to get more goodies is wrong.

      Democrats don't vote democratic because they want more "goobermint" assistance. They vote Democrat because the Democratic Party fights for workers and protects the elderly and poor. They want banks to be regulated so we don't have another financial meltdown and any more bailouts. They want our tax dollars to invest in education, infrastructure, research, technology, clean energy, clean water, clean lakes and rivers, etc. instead of being syphoned to the highest "contributor".

      Low intelligence isn't the problem. People dependent on government aren't the problem. The problem is you have corporations that control the information - they want you to focus your anger at the poor or minorities and not notice how they are robbing the American people blind!! People on this board work and pay taxes and grip about the little bit that goes to food stamps when corporate welfare far exceeds programs for the poor. Mega-wealthy corporations fight for loopholes that allow them to ship jobs overseas and pay no taxes while still enjoying the buying power of the American people! Republicans want small government the same way bank robbers want less cops - so they can get away with stealing from the American people to line their pockets with lobbyist and corporate money. Voting for a Republican is voting to help the wealthy get even wealthier, move more jobs overseas, decrease revenue by providing tax shelters for shady corporations, give money to their cronies, spend money on war (i.e. give more money to their war-machine cronies), destroy protections for our natural lakes and streams (while giving more money to mining companies, oil companies, etc.), do away with protections for our health.

      Republicans scream small government while they grow government ever larger to benefit the few who OWN most of America and our democracy - and at the same time want to regulate morality and make personal decisions for you - forcing women to have vaginal probes and denying rights to gay people. Forcing people to give up their family farms so that oil companies can drill on them or run pipes through them.

      A perfect example of corporate welfare is Medicaid Part D. Taxpayer funded wealth-fare to billionnaire pharmacy companies - a bill funded by taxpayers that increases consumers of pharmaceuticals by millions - and written so that taxpayers have to pay full price (whatever Big Pharma wants to charge) instead of prices being negotiated like anyone with business sense would do. 22 People from the Bush administration that pushed for this bill went to work as lobbyist for Big Pharma once it passed. This bill adds $528 BILLION with a B to our deficit and will continue to until the program is changed. The Bush tax cuts - still adding to deficits. The war in Iraq - still adding to deficits...but Republicans are deficit hawks, right?!?

      27 million jobs created under the Clinton Administration and a budget surplus! - all destroyed during the 8 years of the Bush Administration.
