It turns out crocodiles and alligators can climb trees – something residents who live near the critters all around the world have been trying to tell the “experts” for years.

I'm old enough to remember when the term "expert" meant you knew more about a subject than the average person. now "expert" means you know less and make 99% wrong predictions about the subject matter.
For once, a story which doesn't remind me of Obamacare; this one reminds me of the national debt.

No, because it's looming over our heads, and all the politicians can offer in the way of advice is "Don't look up."

I see that "phenomenon" when I kayak the Hillsborough river. Freaky when you have to go beneath them.

If you want to not spend six or seven hours staring up at the perched alligator you keep going and paddle beneath it. Adds a bit of adventure to the outing.
I suppose, being in a kayak, you have the option of going upside down as you pass beneath the alligator. That oughta confuse him.

lol, the one I was looking for was the parachute school next door to the alligator farm.
Damn, a couple of weeks in the 'glades with the Seminoles could have saved a couple of mil.
But, they're not educated scientists, they're "just" Seminoles, they only know from experience, not research and scientific hypothesis.
