Putin should tell Obama it has been verified that GOP Tea Partiers were behind the bombings. He'll get all the assistance he needs from the US with that line.

With what is happening currently just a few hundred miles away from Sochi, the likely hood of a repeat of Munich 1972 is real possibility. If it happens, the Russians won't try to negotiate. They will user their counter terror measures and there will be a lot of dead. Terrorist, athletes and visitors alike.

I think there was disagreement between State and Defense about who was ultimately responsible, which led to inaction.

France tries hard to be independent. Sometimes, like that time, it means they take a firm stand on the side of being a chickensh*t. The Left thinks that a decision against Reagan means France also hates Reagan. No, they're just doing their own thing, which the rest of the world often construes as them being a bunch of cheese-eating surrender monkeys.
I think that their problem in WWII was just an extension of the WWI problem: Lions being led by donkeys. While in actuality, the problem was a great deal more complex, essentially, France's leadership was not able to deal effectively with blitzkrieg tactics. The Maginot line was simply avoided.
We can't really pin the surrender-monkey label upon France, without pinning the same label on other countries whose heroic virtues were never called into question upon their being conquered.
If I had to guess as to why France got the rap and Poland didn't, was because the world expected more from France.
I've never liked the surrender-monkey characterization. I just finished watching that 6-part Apocalypse: The Second World War series (Smithsonian channel, Martin Sheen narrates), and they had a lot of footage of the Battle of France I'd never seen before, and I just felt sorry for them. Stuka were dive-bombing and strafing kids and mothers on the refugee-clogged roads coming out of Paris.
Its fun to imagine how it'd have turned out if the actual French soldier fought like the Japanese.. but then again, no other nation had anything like Bushido going on. The British had already abandoned the continental landwar. If the individual French soldier fought down to rubble and bone and crawled out with suicidal grenade in hand for his final meeting with tactically victorious enemy, Paris would've been a smoking ruin (like Tokyo had we landed in force instead of nuking them).
