After failing to reach goals, California attempts to jump-start its ‘Hydrogen Highway’

After failing to reach goals, California attempts to jump-start its ‘Hydrogen Highway.’ Sounds more like California is trying ram it up the ‘Hershey Highway’ of the oil companies, which no doubt will cause the oil companies to ram it up every gasoline and diesel purchaser’s ‘Hershey Highway’ to pay for yet another California mandated boondoggle.

CO2Insanity: Tired of the CO2 BS and all the other BS in the US and the world.

  • And how does one create liquid hydrogen? By electrolysis, which means you pass an electrical current into water to break the bond between hydrogen and oxygen atoms. So where will the electricity come from to do this?
I know, fairy dust and unicorn farts!!!!

  • Tell me this: do YOU want a tank of "compressed" (read: liquid) hydrogen, one of the most explosive gasses on earth (and extremely cold in it's liquid state), sitting where Joe Lummox can drive his SUV into it?

    Because I don't.

  • And furthermore, if enough people don't buy hydrogen-powered cars the State can simply mandate that the oil companies buy them and give them away to motorists.

    • and the rail Hinderburg may happen with innocent lives gone and who pays for that in the end?

    • Or maybe the High Speed California hydrogen Blimp..Wasn't that the stuff that made the Hindenburg go BOOM?

      • Hey flash, just curious, along the lines of BofA up there, what are you paying a gallon these days out there in paradise?

        • Diesel, $4.49 a gallon. Yes, it costs $150 to fill my tank. And of course, I pick this year to book a full season of renaissance faires to travel to. The price of fuel almost guarantees that I won't make much money to add to my retirement check. I hope my photography business does better.

  • My problem is: "But now, with less fanfare, Gov. Jerry Brown's administration is trying to jump-start the whole effort with a new strategy: forcing oil companies to build the hydrogen stations." The nerve! By doing this the Oil Companies by force will hike up the prices of gas and other products and everything else will go up in price. How disgusting.

    • I think the oil companies SHOULD jack up the price of their products to cover the cost of hydrogen, but ONLY on products sold in California. State mandates, state pays.

      • Is true I dont see why I have to pay for what others want, which is also why I am against Obamacare and people like Flukey.

      • BOA, this is exactly what I was thinking. Turn the cost directly back upon the consumers in kalifurnia. Do this with every mandate these left wing dipshits force on commerce in the state. 14 dollar gasoline will get the voters attention almost immediately. Let em try to sustain themselves instead of relying on the rest of us to sustain their utopian BS.

    • If hydrogen was a viable fuel, there would be no need for the government to force anyone to build hydrogen stations. The free market would provide businesses that would voluntarily build them with their own money.

      • Exactly right and this is yet another example of government overreach. No government official should MAKE a private entreprise do anything that is not something the market wants.

      • The thing is I think hydrogen is a viable fuel. Once it becomes practical to separate it from water and recombine it with the oxygen in a fuel cell removing the need for hydrogen stations, coolant systems or large tanks on vehicles if left warmer and in lower density.

But you are right. This will never be accomplished by government fiat. If anything government will make it far more difficult by mandating the wasting of resources on the wrong ways to pursue the tech or other crap systems that have no benefit at all.
