Mitch's entire fortune is built upon an edifice of favoritism shown to him by China and his Chinese businessman father-in-law, who was no doubt instructed by the Chinese government to nurture the relationship with an up-and-coming politician until China pretty much owns him. They may have even sent the daughter to woo and marry Mitch back in the day. (It certainly wasn't his looks that attracted her.) The Chinese play a long game. At this point, he should be ashamed to show up for work in the Senate because there is no way he can be impartial when dealing with Chinese issues when his entire fortune could be pulled out from under him at any moment. He's a quisling, and not even a disguised quisling.

Every breathing lying politician in DC knows full well who was responsible for all that happened around and in the Capital.
