“This system has been set up in the city for many decades, as far as this steam loop. It doesn’t rely on fossil fuels or natural gas to heat these buildings. So in that sense it’s good,” (Tyrone Jue of the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission) Jue said.
Jue is evidently a moron. So Tyrone, does that water get heated up and turned in to steam by magic unicorn farts? Or?

So quit wasting "drinking water" and replace the steam boilers with closed loop hot water boilers. They use very little water (barring any pipe/fitting /pump leaks) and are very efficient. Keep the boiler loop treated with proper water treatment and they almost never have to be drained and refilled. Drain the boilers (not the loop) for annual cleaning and maint. and you're good to go.

Have you ever been to San Francisco? They only get one warm day a year, usually sometime in August. (teehee) The rest of the time it is cold, raining or foggy.
There are much more efficient ways to use steam heat but the city has wasted so many millions on senseless projects that they have no money to upgrade all their government buildings.
