In her defense, it's not easy being a politician. You have to shake a lot of hands, eat a lot of babies, and kiss a lot of bad banquet food. Wait...
A little background (I grew up a couple of towns away from Belleville)
Belleville is adjacent to Newark, immediately to the north. North Newark is now mostly Latin. Back when I was in Orange, north Newark was an Italian stronghold led by then Councilman Anthony Imperiale who famously parked a tank on Bloomfield Avenue during the 1967 riots in the central/south wards. Black kids in Orange (of whom there was a significant population) all knew full well to stay the hell out of north Newark, and Belleville too, which culturally was not too different from north Newark.
While we're at it, I'd like to know if there are any tapes of her opinions about Latin people, who now comprise 40% of Belleville's population.
