Another silly Peace Prize from Norwegian leftists. They gave the Peace Prize to the European Union for maintaining peace “for over six decades.” Never mind the awkward fact that the EU wasn’t formed until 1993, never mind that it’s currently imploding financially, and never mind that it was NATO, at enormous cost to the United States, that maintained peace in Europe since Word War II.

It is a silly award. But as I've said before, I salute their efforts, because of the horrors that lie in the European legacy. And I would never crow over their failures, but instead would mourn them
I completely agree with you, Alien. It was only the threat of nuclear annihilation that kept WWIII from happening. It was not because there was any desire for peace or an increase of mutual understanding and cooperation. The EU is an artificial device to mute historical acrimony. The results speak for themselves.

Europe over the centuries has been the centre of much squabbling between the countries of which it consists. That's the way it has always been, and always will be. Give it time, and the constituent parts will be at each other's throats again - this time probably because of the ridiculous Euro.
Awarding a pointless, meaningless "Peace" prize for a temporary lull in hostilities merely serves to heighten the ridicule over the whole "Peace Prize" nonsense, particularly in view of the more recent undeserving cases, like Gore/IPCC and Obama.
