As cities cut police forces, the wealthy hire private protection. “…residents of Oakland, California’s ‘wealthy enclaves’ have hired private security in response to the decline of the Oakland Police Department. … [they city] laid off cops despite ‘struggling with one of the highest murder rates in the nation.’ While these private guards are unarmed—California leads the country in gun control…” Who would hire unarmed guards in a city with “one of the highest murder rates in the nation”? Who would take a job as one? Is it just us or does this sound nonsensical?

All I can think about is that fantastically horrible movie "Kuffs", in which, Chirstian Slater plays a rent-a-cop in semi-future San Francisco where companies bid for the policing duties in districts of San Fran. And I am quite sure, with this brilliant idea around the country playing out as I type-the hilarity of rent-a-cops trying to combat real criminals, real murderous street gangs with cartel ties, we are going to see a lot of mayhem.....all of this while oblowme is trying to take our guns. Oh my how Ronald Reagan must be spinning at 1,100 RPM in his grave. God help us all.
Private security guards in Kalifornia are not allowed to carry weapons? Somebody better tell those guarding the Hollyweird elite they are breaking the law.
Security Guards are licensed by BCIS. They are a separate state agency and they issues "guard cards" for security guards, batons, gun permits, and they have to attend classes for each item, Now off duty police officers, if allowed by their department can do security work but can NOT be security guards per se because they are not licensed by BCIS. Peace officers have a much higher standard from the Peace Officer Standards and Training Office, aka POST, but BCIS seems to think they are not good enough to be security guards..(refer to the story above) It is a f*cked up system with little kingdoms of power divided between liberal shitheads all over the state...
People who say you don't need a gun for protection have never been a victim of a violent crime. They say these guards aren't armed, but they'll be hiring armed guards as the violence escalates.
Funny how quickly gun control opinions change when your safety is in jeopardy.
I have seen these unarmed security guards, a lot of them are old, inexperienced, some wear turbans, some barely speak English, most of them were hired only because they could get a card card from the state of Kalifornia, (not a weapons card-that requires some ability and thought) and at the first sign of trouble, the wet themselves and run.
Not too long ago, the guys who work for me called me to a night club that had private security, the "security guard" was laying in the street, no gunbelt (he didn't have a gun) no shoes, no badge, and high intoxicated. He had been punched in the face by a club patron for grabbing and squeezing the breasts of the patron's girlfriend in front of everyone. ( I guess other patrons helped themselves to his stuff, we never did find out)
The guy who punched him thought he was in trouble and we explained that no, he was not since he was defending his girlfriend from a sexual assault.
The security guard was booked into jail for sexual battery, and public intoxication and was booked in his cute little guard uniform.
I have not much respect for security like this people are hiring, like I said they see trouble, they tend to pee and run.
