I'm confused why many of you think this is a cool thing. They broke several laws and they could have injured or killed many innocent people.
The world does not run by self-righteous teetotalism alone. You can't wake up in the morning without breaking a law in today's America and nobody was injured or killed. Personally, I'd rather share the road with a skilled driver doing 100 mph than a teenage idiot texting her girlfriend while doing the speed limit.
Hell JPT, while I was stationed in Germany in the 90's, 100 mph was for the left (i.e., slow) lane. I often drove in excess of 140 mph between Darmstadt and Frankfurt and all I had was a Toyota Corolla, you should have seen the vacuum trails left behind by the people driving Ferrari's, Lamborghini's, Porshes and Mercedes.
Ah yes, the autobahn, but do you mean kilometers per hour? If you were driving a car you bought in Germany, it probably didn't even have miles per hour on the gauge.
No, no, JP, I had this car shipped over by the military. It was 'miles per hour,' not 'kilometers per hour.' Trust me on this, 140 kph isn't that fast on the Autobahn.
140 = 87 mph
Good grief, I've never owned a car that could hit 140. My first new car was a Datsun 280Z and it would only edge past 115. Plus I learned that any maneuvering at that speed was suicide - the suspension was way too soft to be steering at 115 mph.
Looks like we've found one of the mysterious TD lurkers.
Yes exactly. This is a supposed Troll fan. I believe this is one of the idiots that TD's people for no reason.
I'm assuming you downvoted my post. I respect disagreement but I'm curious to know why you don't agree with my post.
BlizzardCreek, you sound like one of those people who pour cold water on anything and everything other people do that might startle you, scare you, or otherwise annoy you. People like you need to get out more, you cannot spend your entire life cooped-up on your mother's basement. There is more to life than playing Dungeons and Dragons your entire adulthood! You might try getting some sun, or go swimming, or play softball...these aren't particularly dangerous pastimes; hell, might even throw a little 'sun' on that sour-assed disposition of yours.
Do you have a driver's license? have you ever traveled the US Interstate system outside of a crowded city?
If you had, you would know that in general, traveling under 85 mph is a sure way to get run over. The car they drove is built for high speed travel, and unless they stayed in the right lane, the odds of them hurting anyone is very low.
Poppa, your point about traveling OUTSIDE OF A CROWDED CITY, is a big reason I don't take northeastern progressive elites seriously when they talk about regulations for vehicles & what they should be. Driving around the NYC area is not like driving between Minneapolis to Milwaukee to Green Bay to Omaha to Des Moines to Grand Forks to Winnipeg & other areas where there is a few hours between you & where you are going. Not always in ideal weather either. Nobody outside of an urban liberal elitist would drive a Smart Car. Don't see them out on the prairie outside of big cities.
There are times and places in Nevada where you can see where you will be in an hour, and nothing is moving in that whole stretch. The notion of a speed limit becomes rather absurd in those circumstances.
They can't even comprehend what it's like to drive I-80 across PA. It's basically 300+ miles of open road.
Impressive, but how do they announce this now and not have cops from 20 states on their arses?
Don't you have to catch them in the act to give them a ticket?
I will ask Ed that on Friday.
Glad they didn't kill anyone.
Or hit a deer.
Yeah, either one of those would have added considerably to their overall time.
I know Ed personally. He is a very nice guy who has been involved with exotic sports cars since he was in high school. Currently he is the brand manager of Lamborghini Atlanta where he also sells a lot of used Ferraris and Porsches. I will see him later this week. I'm really glad I opened the link, this is great.
If this doesn't sound like fun, something is wrong with you. I can't get the image of the Asian guy huddled in the back seat with the spare tire out of my mind.
Hopefully they only used the bedpan for number one and held their number twos for the rare refueling stops.
Not to worry, take two MRE's and you won't be able to manage a number 2 for at least three days!
That's the truth!
Fortunately, I never consumed more than 1 MRE in a month, so I never experienced that problem, but thanks for the warning.
28 days in a row is my record. Good times.
The constipation must have been unbearable!
Had to have been, I suppressed that memory.
LOL!
Something is wrong with me. It sounds terrifying. So does skydiving, surfing, and space travel.
Wingater, I agree with you. There is no reason I can think of to jump out of a perfectly good airplane.
One thing I've always wondered, the jump master standing there by the exit screaming GO, GO, and counting people, how come he always shuts the door and his ass always stays on the plane?
"One thing I’ve always wondered, the jump master standing there by the exit screaming GO, GO, and counting people, how come he always shuts the door and his ass always stays on the plane?"
Actually the jumpmaster usually jumps also, once you're out of the basic Airborne course. It's the norm for the JM to jump, and he may be the first jumper, with the assistant JM doing the tap outs upon the JM's exit.
The aircraft loadmaster keeps the deployed static lines pulled towards the rear of the aircraft and out of the way of the door.
Well, shoot. So much for my lame SmartAce joke attempt. I stand corrected and duly chastened.
Just for that you don't get to jump out of the plane.
Depends on whether lava bowels dude sits down beside me.
Only because you haven't tried.
And have no intention to.
Adrenaline just isn't your thing, huh? I used to be seriously addicted. I've got it somewhat under control in my aged condition.
I look forward to the stories. Anything particularly funny, i will share.
I'm anxiously waiting.
I actually wondered about that when I saw Lamborghini Atlanta in the article. How come you didn't copilot?
I'll ask him why not when I see him. ;)
