Well, I did it. And by the way, wal mart is just as bad. If an employee has a gun on premises, even in his car, they can him. And they put in his file : fired for workplace violence. Ha. The assholes never found MY gun.

Corporations need workers in order to survive eliminating jobs just for the sake of eliminating jobs or due to greed doesn't make sense. Hiring a lot of workers and not paying them what they are due is a good example of corporate greed. However, EITHER THING has NOTHING to do with this story whatsoever. You are making no sense. I had a TV Brick (Nerf, looked real) long time ago. Hey I'm a Bengals fan, came in handy. Sure would have relieved some stress this past election year if I'd still had it.

Just about every major company has the exact same policy. They dress it up however they want, but it boils down to the fact they are afraid of being sued by anyone and everyone. If an employee takes action against a thief, and either of the are hurt, the store can be sued (and probably would be) for whatever reason. When I managed a fast food place, it was the same issue. It was hammered in to just "give them the money" and do nothing. In some cases, I agree, in some I do not. I think the merits of this Auto Zone employee are commendable, because he turned the tables against a very bad person. Yet the good guy is in trouble. Pretty lame.
You're right moudoka, but what this policy does is foster a sense of bravado in theives, because they know they can get away with it.
If the employee gets hurt protecting the business the business should take care of the employee and not wait for a lawsuit. If the thief gets hurt and sues, seriously? that is why you get insurance anyway and any judge will dismiss the case and just get a good lawyer. It seems pretty stupid to me, in fact employees should be trained to defend themselves and also go onthe offensive IF the opportunity presents itself.
