We heard an ex federal prosecutor on the news today say in so many words that he wondered what the rush was and how they could arrive at charging 6 cops so fast.

This is why short-sighted pol's like the mayor of Baltimore and the prosecutor should never be elected/appointed. The problem is that the majority of voters are equally short-sighted - "give me my money now, to hell with the consequences".
But reality does not care whether you like it or not. And consequences are reality.
Thomas Sowell tells one story about how he became such a critical thinker. An economics professor asked a question. He answered with to the best of my recollection, a pat, boilerplate answer that was basically an "everybody knows ...". The prof asked him "and then what? And he kept asking that same question.
This is the question that the mayor should have asked before making any decisions. So, then what?
There are 2 possible outcomes. Putting aside that "not guilty" is not even remotely on their minds (using that word very loosely), and that their minds are already made up, nevertheless, that is a possible outcome. So, then what? I'd venture a not-so-far-fetched guess that there will be more riots.
And then what?
Where will Baltimore be as a city, as an economy for the following 5, 10, 20 years? What will the businesses in Baltimore do? What will be their future plans even if they are not among the unlucky who were destroyed? How many businesses will be looking to move into Baltimore and create jobs? What will happen to tourism in the Inner Harbor? Many restaurants operate on a thin margin, where a 10-15% reduction in revenue will put them permanently in the red. Would it be a stretch to say that there is at least a decent possibility that it will make Detroit look like a booming city?
On the other hand, let's say that the jury reads the writing on the wall and knowing their "assignment", returns guilty verdicts. What effect will that have on the police and how they do their jobs? What effect will that have on recruitment of new police officers? Anyone with a modicum of intelligence, who has other options, will certainly get a whole lot of incentive to take those other options more seriously. This can greatly increase the "goon" factor in the police dept. Or it can greatly increase the "touchy-feely" percentage, and we can then go down that road, exploring the ramifications of that.
But not just the police - what about all other public employees (you know, the ones who do the jobs we actually want done - the firemen, EMT's, pothole pavers, teachers? The city gov't will have sent a loud and clear message - when the chips are down, we will not have your back. We're going with the mob when it's politically expedient (or when we're just plain too stupid to know what to do that's actually effective), and you, well, you're going under the bus.
And that goes for the law-abiding citizens too. The gov't has already sent them the message that the criminal barbarians come first, then, MAYBE, if it's not too much trouble, we MIGHT consider your interests. The inevitable scenario, IMO, would not be too different from what happened in NOLA after Katrina, except it will happen over time, and what was destroyed will not be rebuilt for the simple reason that there will be no demand to do so.
This city gov't has painted itself into a corner, put themselves between a rock and a hard place, whatever metaphor you want to use. But it should come as no surprise. It's what liberals do. If there is success around them, it's not because of what they do, it's in spite of what they do. It's because the forces of the market overcome their ineptness, their constant desire to ruin anything good. What they've done in Baltimore was completely annihilate all demand for their city. Unfortunately, the short-sightedness goes both ways - future and past. By the time the effects of their actions really bite, no one will have any idea why.
Not about justice. Of course not.
These democrat party-media provocations are about motivation. Each needs a scapegoat to focus the hate and outrage. It is necessary to have the Brownshirt rank & file as self-rightous and as angry as possible. Keep them properly in the fame of mind so they can be called to a greater 'cause' wihtout questions being asked when needed. This is why the cops have been quickly charged. Each of these hyped race provocations is a piece of a larger propaganda campaign to make sure democrat party activists, black in particular, are properly motivated for what is coming next.
Rush to ruin! Let's convict them, imprison them and deny them due process before anyone figures out this is really all about the Liar-in-Chief getting ready to suspend the Constitution (which he couldn't give a rat's ass about anyway) and place all of us in FEMA camps!
