Barack Obama makes Falklands gaffe by calling Malvinas the Maldives. The Maldives are halfway around the planet from the Falklands (as the UK calls them) or the Malvinas (as Argentina calls them) so he’s only about 12000 miles off. But the president is just a victim of the the Dunning-Kruger effect.

  • So why do we have a "neutral" stance on the Falklands and why is Obama trying to call the islands by their Argentinian name instead of the Falklands ANYWAY! For God's sake, don't we believe in self-determination? The English-speaking people of the Falklands don't want anything to do with dysfunctional Argentina!

  • Yeah I heard all about this on the cable "news" stations. CBS, NBC, CNN, et al are all pointing out what a complete idiot this guy is, just like they did with George Bush, Sarah Palin, Dan Quale, etc. etc. Nothing like fairness and balance with the media.

  • Obama can take the intercontinental railroad to the Maldives where the people speak Austrian. Don't worry, it's O.K., he'll have Marine Corpse protection, the same as he has here in the 57 states.

    What a pathetic dumbass, pandering to Argentina by attempting to call the Falkland Islands the Malvinas. It's also an insult to England, our closest ally. Obama is a one man wrecking crew, ruining our economy and alienating our allies.

    • I love hearing people ream the the big "O" so I ran to the Telegraph and this is all I found, I couldn't believe it. Don't those people have ears at all, the idiot in the oval office has done nothing but slander the brits for the last three years when Bush was nothing but reverent to them, WTF, I just don't get it. So anyway where did you go over there, I want to find it??
      Anyways..., here is what Jonathan Gilbert of the Telegraph had to say, "Barack Obama made an uncharacteristic error, more akin to those of his predecessor George W Bush, by referring to the Falkland Islands as the Maldives."
