Ben Carson Admits He Lied About Getting In To West Point. Compared to the lies we get from Obama, Hillary, Bill and other assorted Democrats this is nothing. But the Democrats expect their candidates to lie before, during and after they’re elected. Will Republicans ignore this? We think the next debate is going to be interesting, providing he lasts that long.
UPDATE: Here’s the excerpt from his book. Doesn’t appear he was ever offered and official scholarship nor did he apply for one.

Houston, we have a problem.
I appreciate that I'm old and sometimes a little slowon the uptake. But I am not seeing a lie here. Carson and I are of an age, and back then, good students were pursued by colleges to.attend. i got maybe 200 letters, cards, and broshures from colleges trying to.get me to.enroll. i never went to.any of them, but that didn't make their offerings any less valid. Crazinrss!
That was my experience as well, so I understand where he is coming from. However, he wasn't offered a scholarship, he still had to correct the record... but with that said it was an honest mistake and he never went back to realize the truth that as a WP cadet he wouldn't have to pay for anything anyway. Things happen... it is what it is.
The article should be considered actionable slander. It relies heavily on people not reading past the headline and accepting the premise. Your willingness to actually process the content is something they're counting on most to not have. This in part is how we keep getting establishment shills for presidential candidates... keyboard snipers posing as journalists.
In the aftermath of a hypothetical revolution, members of mainstream press and media would be tried, convicted, and hanged. They are doing all they can to ensure we remain unrepresented in government.
The power of accusations.
Truth is rarely used since it has no value in the progressive narrative but false accusations are paramount. Alinsky trained professional progs like every person working in the media are well aware of this and many are simply astounding in their ability to apply it.
Once a target is forced to used resources in his defense against false accusations he can be taken down by hordes of mis-informed believers who are trained to keep the accusations in mind and to ignore any follow up defense. See Sarah Palin attributed for tina fey "comedy" as fact.
Once smeared the stain will remain.
Precisely... there's no question of the injury end of the deal.... and they still manage to successfully smear conservatives with the "bully" label.
I doubt the Carson attacks by MSM are going to work for the dems this time. But they are not quitters and we can expect a constant stream of this for the next year.
I believe they are. A friend posted a rant on FB about Carson being a pathological liar after seeing the article.. and got quite a few likes and replies agreeing with him.
The hit piece is showing up all over the place.
It's only being spread by committed libtards that aren't smart enough to know any better.
I always counter with, "The party that supports Hillary is talking about lying?"
What a stupid lie and mistake that was...
He didn't lie about anything. If he was told by people that he could get in, that was almost certainly the truth since he got into Yale. And while "scholarship" is the wrong word, a high school kid wouldn't understand that. Nobody pays for anything at West Point. You're in the Army so the Army pays. To a high school kid that sure would sound like a scholarship, wouldn't it?
It doesn't sound like Carson lied about anything. On the radio today I heard other people from that era saying they were offered slots at West Point, too. One guy on Rush Limbaugh says he was pulled out of basic training and given some papers to sign and that was that, he could go to West Point. He says he didn't sign because the ten-year commitment sounded like an eternity to an 18-year-old.
It was a time when the military was in disrepute and the school had to actively recruit to get quality kids. The only thing even slightly questionable in Carson's story is the Westmoreland thing, and I trust him more than I trust Politico about where Westmoreland was or was not forty years ago.
I wrote above...
I was listening to someone calling in to the radio today, who said they were formerly involved with West Point admissions. They said that it was very for a teenager to misunderstand the language used by the West Point recruiters.
I don't blame Carson for this.
I really don't understand why they're making an issue of calling it a scholarship. The government pays for your schooling. Whatever they call it officially, it meets the definition of the word scholarship:
"a sum of money or other aid granted to a student, because of merit, need, etc., to pursue his or her studies"
So what if it's the government is paying instead of a university endowment fund? So what if they require you to serve in the Army for a number of years after you graduate? It's still effectively the same thing.
It isn't a scholarship. It is compensation. A cadet is a member of the US army. He is training to be an officer. There is a substantial investment made in that cadet; therefore, he owes five years active service upon his commissioning.
To call it a scholarship would be like saying when I went to jump school, I also did so on a scholarship because the army paid for the training.
Carson didn't lie he made a semantic error.
ot, but here's a link for your extensive file on the topic Kick
http://freedomoutpost.com/2015/11/psychiatry-and-psychotropic-meds-a-nation-under-conquest/
I don't know why this post was 404d but I'll edit it just to see.
Today in America, it seems that almost everyone is prescribed some type of mood-altering drug to deal with their problems. The use of psychotropic drugs has become as commonplace as taking an aspirin to relieve a headache.
How do you think they keep the LIVs under control?
I bet they give you a prescription for zanax when you get your Medicaid card.
It's because I spelled zanax right the first time!!
That's weird.
I think we're saying the same thing. And remember, this is a high school kid who doesn't know squat about the subject. He's being told he wouldn't have to pay for anything. What else is he going to think? He's going to think, "Full ride scholarship. Cool."
Agree. Semantics.
But, the left takes semantics and twists them to their advantage.
For Carson and Cain, they use semantics to destroy them, for Hillary and Obama, they use semantics to make heroes out of them.
In both cases, they're still lies.
The link to the "admission" was to Politico and CNN.
Strike one.
Now this is anecdotal so take it with a grain of salt but Carson was already in the ROTC program and it stands to reason that an institution like West Point would have pursued him- particularly considering the time, Vietnam- and the effect that war had on those in the military as well as its public image. It was also during a period when the military and its adjunct institutions were intent on achieving higher minority recruitment and the had an American of African descent who would ultimately become a successful neurosurgeon so he was clearly no slouch.
Strike two.
The absence of an application to WP doesn't necessarily mean he wasn't offered something... and admission to WP means all expenses paid with a stipend... is that not the very definition of scholarship? Cadets pay for this with military service. Using the lack of any application/ acceptance as proof that he wasn't offered something when it seems pretty logical that at the time he represented the exact type of person the military wanted at a time that it was taking quite a severe PR hit thanks in no small part to the nightly news body counts intent on chipping away grass roots support for a very unpopular war.
From where I sit, they disproved nothing and Carson is guilty of but one thing, being a GOP front runner.
Strike three.
It's a hit piece.
Once I became more aware of the facts I realized that the story is silly. Like I wrote in another thread without applying, colleges can promise incentives for you to go/apply, but then you don't go nor apply, but IF you went you would have the incentive right? So not sure where he lied. He was hot stuff, they offered him an incentive to apply and go... he didnt apply and he didnt go... what is the problem?
The problem is, he's a black man that isn't a leftist.
If he were a leftist, there would be nothing for the MSM to say.
The situation with him was that he probably made an honest mistake, but his interpretation of the facts was incorrect, so he still had to correct the record. He wasn't offered a scholarship. However, this is not a flat out lie, if he was offered an incentive to go/apply, which it seems it what happened. He corrected the record and the facts seems to have been divulged so now it is up to the MSM to correct the record... but many won't. In Yahoo! it stills says he lied about record without any context. This is to be expected though, unlike HC though he can still continue in the fight and hopefully he will continue to the end.
I'm sure the NAACP will be coming to his defense any minute now.....
Au contraire. Some of the narrative is that his campaign is admitting to the lie and THAT as much as anything needs to be addressed by Carson... and when an otherwise intelligent conservative whose views contribute so very much opines that it is a stupid lie and mistake then I rest my case. The real lie was on the part of mendacious media like CNN as well as Politico, who originated it.
So basically one is guilty of having an opinion based on primary information? Not all information comes in at once. Once more information came in I could make an adjustment in my opinion. Hermann Cain ACTUALLY gave money to a woman not his wife FOR YEARS... he may not have admitted adultery, but a man does not provide money to a woman not his wife FOR YEARS behind his wife's back for purely altruistic reasons. This is not HC all over again, because in HC's case he did do something off and strange and he instead of correcting the record and continuing the fight, decided to leave. He did something off and strange. This is not the situation with Carson.
If a lie was made it would have indeed been a stupid lie and a terrible mistake to make because such a thing could be found out easily. That is a one point to be made. My opinion was based on information at the time, just that facts changed, it wasn't a lie, but it wasn't accurate either. He wasn't offered a scholarship. He still had to correct the error. Sure it may have been an honest mistake. I will not be made guilty for having an opinion based on information I had at the time... HOWEVER once more information came in I came to realize that he didn't flat out lied, but he was mistaken in his interpretation of the information provided. He still had to correct the record. It is what it is.
I think it's advisable to reserve judgement/reaction when the source of information is MSM sources and is being used to hit a conservative (presumed) outsider who appears to pose a significant threat to the political establishment... that is waging a war against this country and its founding principles.
I look at anything I hear or see from MSM sources through the prism of it being potentially ammunition in this war.
Having an opinion is one thing- but reacting from a position of judgement is quite another- particularly when the "information" is being released in purposeful fragments designed to elicit that very reaction in order to illegitimately destroy
I will not lend my own human frailties in judgement to the progressives and their ammunition and cheerfully but humbly urge others to do the same
Well I am so happy for you that you are so perfect, but mind that you are sitting in judgement of me, so I guess IN THE END you and I are the same and you aren't so perfect after all.
I was not judging you- That is not my intention
I realize the challenge of not jumping to conclusions- particularly when part of what's meted out suggests that his campaign made a separate retraction.
Neither do I intend cast myself as being above any reproach in this... and my decision to stop with television was more an economic one. The continued resolve to not get TV is a convenience afforded by a number of things that have been products of chance and not the prize harvest of some level of genius I supposedly possess... because that premise would need the support of a lot more than 97% consensus of
political hacksscientists to conceal the fact that it would be a straw argument.I will not find anyone "guilty of having an opinion" regardless of how much I differ with it and in all fairness I did not differ all that much from your original contribution that has ignited this most interesting sidebar.
Yes, there was a mistake made and it could well prove to measure up to "unforced error" and be a stupid one. My whole sense with the release is a mix of horror at the mendacity on the part of Politico and CNN.. and grudging admiration of the sheer genius, albeit evil, that would have otherwise more or less like minded people at such odds over what amount to be semantics.
Divide and conquer.
That is not always possible even on this site. This site has gotten stories wrong a lot or they have had to make updates (like in this story) some the fault of the person posting and many times not the person posting's fault, but it is what it is. I stand by my first statement in the sense that had this been true that he lied, it was indeed a stupid lie, because it is something that someone can easily find if it is true or not. It is great that he didn't lie, but the truth is that he WASN'T offered a scholarship... that is the truth... HOWEVER the truth is nuanced and comes with complexities that HAS to be explained and it was. The record still needed to be corrected, but the correction is nuanced and complex... he didn't lie, he just didn't know what he was talking about, because he based the conversations on assumptions made on his part and it seems that from that point on, in his life, nobody explained to him the process of application to WP and he himself did not research that before writing his book. Also the conversation that took place was probably so hurried and without much explanation that all in all a lot of people are culpable about this misunderstanding. It is very silly in the end this controversy, however, if this is all they can find on him, he should be just fine. It is a storm. I am not under any delusion that going through the process of getting a nomination and getting the Presidency is going to be easy for a Black person who is a Conservative/Libertarian. Getting to the Presidency SHOULDN'T be easy anyway. If he is all of that, he should weather this storm and he will be stronger and more adept at getting the job in the end. The Presidency came too easy for Barackie and he very easily dismantled (even further) the fabric of this nation. Sometimes it takes a lot of work to get something to appreciate the something more and be more careful and mindful of it.
Herman Cain all over again, Democrats can not stand anyone who is black to run against them...You hit it out of the part with this one...
It's concerning to hear otherwise clear thinking conservative minds take the bait. But for the lack of TV I'd probably be taking the bait as well.
what happened is that not all the information came in at once.
Once more information came in one can always change perspective. He may have not have lied, but he wasn't accurate either and the record needed to be corrected after all. However it is possible that he made an honest mistake based on an misunderstanding of the conversation he was provided. I am not going to feel bad for having an opinion based on information that was available at the time.
It is very telling- the disparity in standards of honesty being applied here versus the Democratic front runner.... and anyone can correct me if I'm wrong but I'm reasonably certain that the factual exceptions with Carson's bio were not used to cover the truth behind four murdered Americans as a result of State Department gross negligence.
I have no ideals that Conservatives/Christians/Republicans/Libertarians/ETC are going to be treated special and with kid's gloves in the media. It is important to make sure that the bias is exposed whenever possible, however, at times something happens to be incorrect and the record needs to be set on it and then move on (like in this case), or like in other cases the record is what it is and the candidate or person needs to go away. However, non-Liberal/Progressives will always have to set the record straight and will always have to walk the straight and narrow, if they want to be part of the public/political arena, that is just how it is. It is sad and inconvenient at time, but that is how it is. That is the price that we all pay for allowing Liberals/Progressives the foothold in all aspects of our lives and allowing them to command the language and the cultural tone of the country. This is something that has been happening for more than 8 years. United Staters starting loosing their grit and their grip on their government sometime after The Great Depression and certainly after WWII. Liberals/Progressives are evil and they took advantage of that. Yes Hillary will get a pass because Liberals took the reins and they don't want to let go. So those that oppose that just need to be strong and straight (not crooked) and live right to get through it. That is just how it is.
In any case, they found something minor that was incorrect in his biography, something that was easily corrected by him. Done. He is going to live through this. He just needs to hold on, to remain steadfast, to get IN FRONT of any other possible issue or controversy. He needs to talk to his G-D and see if this is really the path for him. As a Black person and as a Conservative he HAS to put the extra effort to walk the line. That is the reality of it all. If this is really all they can find against him, he should be fine. People that were always going to vote for him will continue to do so. People that were never going to vote for him will not do it anyway. People that were still on the fence will make a decision based on the results of this issue and the fair and just minded will vote for him if he is the nominee.
OK, since Obama is no longer running for president, there is going to be a change in the narrative from the left.
SEXIST!!! MYSOGINIST!!! WAR ON WOMEN!!!
Get used to it.
Did he visit West Point? Ok, not the same as being accepted.
