Big Brother Alert: Cameras in the Cable Box to Monitor TV viewers

Big Brother Alert: Cameras in the Cable Box to Monitor TV viewers. Easily fixed by a couple of strips of good old duct tape. Looks like Comcast et al have the NSA beat all to hell when it comes to snooping.

  • Guess who's getting their cable box returned tomorrow, time to go with a dish, better channels, and no spying. (At least not yet)

  • This is so disturbing. I just checked my Comcast box, which is the latest model, newest Xfinity DVR box. Flat, smooth opaque front with the time on the left and On/off button on the right. Next to the time are the "remote", "data" and "record" spots that light up. The rest of the front looks innocently like black plastic. I took a flashlight to see if anything shows up behind that opaque front and lo and behold next to the hidden lights is the tiny electronic eye for my remote and right next to it is the camera lens identical to the picture in your article. Completely hidden. I would have NEVER thought that it was there all this time.
Just thinking of all the private things I have done. Like blow my nose (and such), be naked, hmmmm, more private kind of intimate stuff, conversations with friends and neighbors, to name a few? I could just crawl in a hole and die from my private life being violated!!! I talk to my computer screen a lot and to TV shows, so now people could think I am crazy talking to no one? I think out loud MORONS!!!! (like reading out loud is also better for my comprehension) YES I talk to my computer. SO???? Yet, why am I embarrassed? The lens view captures every area of my living room, so no moving out of range except to leave the room. Looks straight across at my office desk and computer screen so every website I am on or what I am writing on discussion boards can be easily observed. Well, NOT NOW!!!, I just took a piece of red duct tape and cut it in the shape of a stop sign ( I think that was wee clever on my part, and and a bit of a smart a**) and taped it over the lens area. Woo hoo!

So, how long has it been already in use before being announced to the public that it is in the plans to be used? What is this going to lead up to? Are people eventually going to end up in the future living in fear of their front doors kicked in like gang busters over who knows what would be considered as a crime or such? Didn't we fight against Communism during/after WWII just for that alone? People dragged out of their homes because they kept knowledge to themselves or did not snitch on a neighbor for example?

Sorry I am rambling on. There can be no good reason for our gov to do this to its people and now don't even bother to hide it anymore and blatantly push it in our faces. Right now, I feel like the last of what little freedoms we actually may have had is being taken away. It's all an illusion. We have no freedom left. I am outraged and so sad because right now my heart is bleeding for all the soldiers putting their lives on the line for what? A lie? An illusion?. So now..., while there is a small window of opportunity remaining to exercise our rights, who can I sue?

    • That is not right! You got to say something! I have an older model. So I hope that there is nothing there.

we are going down the route of Fahrenheit 451 and 1984 every single moment.

  • Nothing like having the Gestapo and SS all working together. Maybe it's time that we the private US Citizens strike back at those doing the snooping. You know a prism in front if the camera, a magnifying glass shining back at. Or some other method to impede the images to the camera. That or just get a big ass stuffed donkey and sit it in front of the box. That way the asses can watch the ass looking back.

  • Looks like Comcast et al have the NSA beat all to hell when it comes to snooping.

Because... you still think Comcast and the NSA are two completely separate entities?

  • This is too funny!!

    Solution: Don't have a TV.

I can now add this reason to the very long list of reasons why I do not have one. SCORE!!!

    • Naw Jim, just watch in the nude and let it all hang out.
In my case, if they want to watch some middle aged man watching in the nude and scratching himself, they are more than welcome to...however I will NOT be held responsible for any disability claims resulting from the temporary blindness that may ensue.

    • Exactly! Sometimes I am not necessarily completely dressed this is not good!!! Who the hell am I going to sue?

Edit: Okay so it is GOING to happen if nobody stops them good, because seriously this is insane. They would probably put the consent form or sentence in diminutive words hidden on something else. Disgusting.

  • Simple fix, Get a picture of Mr. Napolitano, and put it on a stand just far enough away so the box can only see his ugly face. And if you wanna have more fun, Write or type nicely on the bottom of the photo, "Obama sucks"........Wonder how long it would be before someone from the IRS called you in for an audit?
