Bill Nye, the you’re-unpatriotic-if-you-don’t-believe-in-global-warming-science guy

What could possibly make for better entertainment than Rachel Maddow giving a forum to pop science icon Bill Nye?

Nye reveals a unique scientific theory that says believing in the science behind global warming is patriotic. And vice versa.

“…there’s more energy in the atmosphere and this is stirring things up,” Nye said. “If you want to get serious about it, these guys claiming that the snow in Washington disproves climate change are almost unpatriotic. It’s really, they’re denying science. So they’re very happy to have the weather forecast be accurate within a few hours, but they’re displeased or un-enchanted by predictions of the world getting warmer. It’s really, it shakes me up.”

We think Rachel Maddow may have said something, too, but we had really kind of checked out by that time.

  • "How does patriotism tie in with debates in science, again?"

Denying science is bad for your country.

If you make decisions that are bad for your country (like ignoring scientific evidence that leads to investments in clean energy), then you're making unpatriotic decisions. I agree that the word may sound a bit odd and out-of-place but it is true nonetheless.

  • The sad part is that Nye, if he is indeed a science guy, should be familiar with chaos theory and that the Monte Carlo Method is no real way to circumvent it. He speaks glowingly of being able to predict weather hours in advance but that is not a prediction based on a computer model . . . that is a prediction based on real time data. If Nye really wants to demonstrate how reliable these methods of prediction let him give us an accurate forecast for a year from next Tuesday.

  • The melt-down of the left (pun intended) is great to watch. God is sayin'
"I got your glo-bull warming right here". Ever notice that the scripture stating that God will not be mocked is prove true over and over again?

  • The subject of "GlobalWarming/ClimateChange" can be broken down like this...
    1. People who believe because the must believe, it's almost a religious cult.
Many of these people see themselves more as "Citizens of the World", rather then an "American Citizens".
    2. People who are open to debate, they may think there is "GW/CC", but may not believe that man is causing it. Most are too busy to look into the subject for themselves.
    3. People who know about the "ClimateGate" & the CRU e-mails. They know about the lies & distortions of those pushing hardest for capping CO2. These people see themselves usually as "American Citizens", NOT "Citizens of the world".

I am in the 3rd group. Bill Nye is a fear-mongering liar in my opinion. He should be exposed & then shunned.

  • Ever notice that nearly all the questions start with "what do you feel . . ."
No thinking needed here, we just feel. So much for science and skepticism - oh wait, he got really excited about a "prize" as though that is proof of reality.
    Unfreakin' believable.

    • But.. but.. isn't that PROOF? Snow is most definitely proof of Global WARMING! Cause snow definitely heats up the atmosphere!

      Especially in D.C.

  • What's up with Bill Nye? He a fellow with the Committee for Skeptical Inquiry. I saw him go head-to-head with a climate warming guy, who resorted to personal , ad hominem attack. Now he's shilling to global warming. He's turned into the Ariana Huffington of the global warming debate, a former skeptic turned zealot, Maybe his neighbor Ed Begley and an all-veggie diet did it to him.

BTW - Nice, keading question, Rachel Maddow! So fair and balance. Yet another reason NOR to watch MSNBC.
