It's a smart decision not to waste campaign funds running for president when for 8 years you were the insurance policy for America's worst president.
They didn't want Joe taking the stupid vote away from she who murders anybody who talks.

What you're going to see is a conservative speaker that takes a conservative Congress that puts a strategy (in place) to fight and win.

The rest of his statement puts it in proper context, but that's all the dems needed to effectively force him to drop from a shoe in vote for next Speaker OTH.
They will use this statement to paint Hillary as a victim. A female victim at the hands of evil white men. They can further defend this position by stating that if he(McCarthy) didn't mean what he said, why did he drop from the race? Just my opinion.
