Bonfire of the Absurdities: After 35 year career writing software for IBM mainframes, am now self-employed contractor thinking of joining a union and striking for higher wages. Cured morbid fear of heights when I learned to look at them as lengths standing on end. Uncompromising in refusal to accept browser cookies. Amateur investor who has accumulated a small fortune in the market after starting out years ago with a large one. For recreation, I run, hike, kayak and play tennis but will not consider synchronized swimming under any circumstances.

  • In Denver we have Thought Vigilantes. Democrat campaign offices are under assault. Shots fired and swastika paintings. It's sad. This stains image of otherwise perfectly reasonable Romney supporters. I had thought there'd be a high profile condemnation of these acts, it'd be good for his campaign here

    • I would be very interested to see who is behind these acts of violence and vandalism. I would not put it past the Dems to do it themselves just to blame the Romney people. (and yes, I AM a conspiracy theorist when it seems to fit!)

        I think not.. this state has some hardcore anti-fed types. We got mountain folk who vandalize beemers during ski season. It's an interesting evolution of a state that was pretty redstate before the last decade

        • Think about it, what better way to get attention and play the victim card and blame right wingers/conservatives and get some press from the main stream media. There are anti government types all over the west, Idaho, Montana, The Dakota's, etc. But given the tenor of this campaign, I would not surprised seeing as how the left is vandalizing Romney/Ryan Stuff. This is a big way to draw attention away from that. Perhaps it's being a cop for a couple decades plus, but you always look closest to the crime scene for suspects first.

          • Its not like I haven't considered it.. my neighborhood is replete with Romney/Ryan signs, and I know people who are afraid to put Obama bumper stickers on their cars or signs in their yards. The Romney/Ryan signs near me all seem just fine.

            But I am a little surprised that no one here seems to consider the possibility that the acts I mention were perpetrated by an opponent-of-Obama. Occam would raise a quizzical eyebrow. Some humans are simply unhinged, regardless of partisan alliances.. minds fall apart, and left with hate for the marxist Kenyan imposter bent on the destruction of the U.S., it seems a reasonable scenario that some may strike out.

            There's some greater context too.. there was that neighbor in Oklahoma threatening to shoot some noob homeowners on the street for their Obama yard sign.. It is happening on both sides methinks

          • I agree, there are nutcases on both sides, I have one in my neighborhood. He yells at people who have Romney/Ryan Signs....and has a huge Obama sign in his front window...The guy medically retired from some state of Kalifornia job and grows his own medical marijuana. I know cause he got busted for selling some to kids....I don't really have any of the conservative go to far folks around here...but I am sure there's one lurking out there somewhere...

            I got up at 3 this morning to watch the shooting star show and it was great. Out in the sticks where I live with no street lights or any other kind of outside lights, its great for viewing nature at her best.

  • It seems everytime the "progrssives" are in charge, everything goes down the toilet. Cities, States, even countries all go to shit as soon as the left takes over. We need a generation of Reagans and Thatchers!

  • For that, and many other reasons, all to do with the slow but sure demise of the Former UK as a viable place to live, is why I left and took up residence in France.

    Now, things are far from perfect here (especially since the socialist nincompoop Hollande was erroneously voted in by the stupid French electorate), but the quality of life is far, far higher, and we are generally left to our own devices, and not nannied by the state.

    Maybe why that's why everyone is so much more polite, kids are generally non-threatening, roads are clean and good, education better, health service (although we have to pay our own way) second to none, and the whole ambience of the place less of a run-down, multi-culti ghetto which the Former UK has become, to the despair of the ethnic Brits (who are rapidly becoming a brow-beaten, government-controlled zombie minority).

  • Didn't "Dear Leader" attempt to set something like this up with the "If you see something, say something" website? Reason enough right there to vote his sorry ass back to Chicago.

  • It's not just England, free speech is under assault worldwide by the Left and the Islamists. Both detest the idea that someone can dissent from their orthodoxies. Don't think that the First Amendement will always protect Americans, many of our universities already have speech codes and some states have passed "hate crime" laws.

    The Left loves "free" health care, "free" schooling and "free" contraception but it has a problem with free speech. The Islamists rage against anyone who "defames" their prophet or criticizes their Koran.

          • Wow, that's different...Cops usually say "Ma'am, you wanna tell me why your flying like a bat outta hell in a minivan?" Then I smile and bat my eyelashes while handing over my license and registration and say "I got nothin'" and then they start making up excuses for me and some of them are pretty funny so I laugh. So they tell me I have a nice smile and ask if I still live at the same address and I say yes. then they ask me if I can do them a favor and I ask what it is. And they ask "Can you slow it down just a tad" and I say "I think so" And they hand me back me license and registration and I go on about my merry way...So you must have been given the wrong script.
