He obviously has attention deficit disorder. The insane women in that family get all the attention. That's what so much of this "coming out" gay, transgender stuff is all about. These people crave attention and will do anything to get it. Even if it destroys them. Negative attention is a great way to get others to look at you. The guy/girl with a green mowhawk, giant wood discs in their ears, a ring in their nose, who's covered in tattoos doesn't choose to look that way to keep a low profile. Especially when they stare daggers at you for not being able to look away. They love the attention and it's the only way they can get it.
It's a "Look at me, but don't look" thing.
