Burtraw: California’s Cap and Trade Program is an Excellent Up-to-Date Design. Yes it is! Providing your idea of “excellent” is raising the cost of everything and watching more businesses and citizens who actually work for a living leave the state. At this rate Jerry Brown will soon be pushing to tax OWS’ers, unemployed and welfare recipients because there won’t be anyone left to tax!

Well, yeah, people and businesses may flee the state and the California economy might crash but, other than that, what could go wrong?

Hey, kill (metaphorically) several birds with one stone. The flakes and nuts would no longer be embarrassed to be American, the Nation of Aztlan would get at least some of the land back that they want, and we wouldn't have to worry about the scholarships for illegal aliens. American citizens would now qualfiy. Sounds like a plan to me.
As the date of the first of these auctions approaches there is going to be a stampede for the borders by those people who still have any money left.

Yeah, everyone "benefits" when they pay more for something than it's worth with the excess going to some cockamamime political scheme to solve an imaginary problem. Know what? Instead of paying $2 for a six-pack of soda, I'm gonna go find a place that sells it for $3 each because I'm sure we'll all benefit... at least, the guy selling it for a $1 more will.
