There is a federal law that requires defense contractors to give 60-day advance notice of layoffs. Because of the automatic budget cuts built into the budget deal Congress made, those layoff notices are required on November 1, one week before the election. That will be awkward for Obama, so the Labor Department is telling defense contractors to ignore the federal law and NOT send out the required layoff notices and furthermore telling them the federal government will pay any legal fees the contractors incur from defending themselves in court because they ignored federal law.
For the life of me, I don't understand how this is not a crime. The Labor Department is telling people to break the law and offering taxpayer money to defend them from criminal charges afterward. All so Obama can win reelection.
It IS a crime, but if no one will prosecute it, what difference does it make? Not to mention, who even knows about it? The media malpractice is horrific. Only Fox is reporting it, and even they barely explain what the deal is.
Speaking of media malfeasance I tried a little test this morning. There is an issue in Maryland that will be on the ballot: Question 7. Personally I really don't care. It's about whether to allow the building of a new casino in Maryland. We have 5 already, so the issue is not moral or social. The casino organizations have pumped in jillions of dollars for ads - I gather the current casino company is saying NO and MGM, who wants to build the new one, is touting how wonderful and magical it will be - filling the educational coffers and putting the homeless to work - you know.
Anyway - I will be darned if I can find ANY real information on what the law says, or what the real issues are. There are dozens of stories about the AD WAR, but almost nothing about the actual issue. It's crazy. The reporters are asking the "guy on the street" and they can all quote the ads, but they have no idea what any of it means! This is dereliction of duty on the part of the media. Sickening and shameful.
Interestingly I have not seen ANY ads about the gay-marriage issue which will be on the ballot. Hmmmmm.... I should probably go read it - how much you want to bet that it is worded in such a way that people who think they are voting against it, will actually be voting in favor? It has happened before!
I'm with you JP...I don't see how that isn't a crime.
No news here. FDR doomed the US to socialism as a ploy to establish a democratic voting bloc from the old. It's been the party of buying votes since they figured out they couldn't get enough votes from the dead alone.
