CA air regulators adopted standards requiring 1 in 7 new cars sold there in 2025 to be an electric or other zero-emission vehicle. They’re hoping the Commerce Clause will enable President Michelle Obama to order would-be auto buyers into Volt showrooms at gunpoint. Failing that, the onus will be on govt agencies and contractors to buy more electrics when the public fails to cooperate.

We already know this E-Car moondoggle is a failure and always will be till better technology is discovered. Obuttboy doesn't want these things discovered because that would give more power and freedoms to the people. His dream nation would be to run this country like CHINA. Everybody stock up on bicycles now before he passes a new taxes and regulations on those too.
Just more of do as I say and not what I do from the land of fruits and flakes. Sorry guys know both of you live there.
What will the attempt to regulate once the motorized vehicles are no longer. Bicycles, horse walking?
I think Atlas is about to start shrugging...
According to Obama's website 1 in 7 by 2025 should be easy to obtain as long as the dilithium crystals become of use as planned in 2023.
We are watching the death of a sovereign state here. Leftfornia is slowly dying, as more and more stupid asses regulations are imposed, the net result is a larger percentage of business and productive people leave.
We have nothing but nasty things to say about our local Air Quality Management District (AQMD). They come out yearly to "inspect" our boilers and back-up generators at different facilities. I've been on 2 of these and they usaully send out a 20-something female with a clipboard. She tells us to start a boiler or generator, watches the flue for smoke (black, blue, white, or whatever), and jots a few notes down. She tells us "Thank You" and leaves. I've always wondered what qualifies these people to make judgements and pass out fines based on flue gas color. I know they have NO idea how this equip. runs or what it takes to tune one. At least the few bldgs. I'm responsible for have had no fines to date. They're a royal pain in the ass. As with all these State agencies it's all about revenue and who they can screw to keep their Kingdoms alive. Ditto to KW's comments about Gerry Brown. He's only been in office a short time and he's killing the state.
We refer to them as the "AIR NAZIS", cause that's what they are. I feel soon kalifornia will be much like Greece and we will be sucking wind. This state is sooo over regulated that it sucks. Every time you buy something there is a recycle fee, air tax, smog fee, excise tax, underwear tax, etc. And every product you buy has to have a warning cause the education system produces some of the most ignorant people on the planet. Why does Preparation H have to say do not take orally? For gods sake how dumb have we become? I am looking forward to retirement and moving to a state that is not so screwed up and liberal, They can have this place. At one time it was the Golden State, How it's the Beholden State cause we owe everyone. I hope they buy electric cars for the legislators, and there is a massive fire in the capital garage. Yes they get state issued cars and a parking garage of their very own..Just another reason we are broke..
WOW!! I made the mistake of reading the comments below the article. Kali deserves itself. The most pathetic state in the nation bar none. No cogent thought as to where the electricity will come from to support increased demand. Where will we place the coal or nuke plants?? Lake Tahoe, San Diego, L.A.??? One of the enlightened even suggests the electric cars don't need much power. FUCKING IDIOTS ALL OF THEM!!!
Sadly, unless I walk from my upside down house, I'm stuck in this cesspool of idiocracy FUCK YOU JERRY BROWN AND ALL THE IDIOTS WHO PUT YOU BACK THERE!!
“CA air regulators adopted standards requiring 1 in 7 new cars sold there in 2025 to be an electric or other zero-emission vehicle.”
And YOU think it stops there? Try reading the preamble to HR 1380 “The New Alternative Transportation to Give Americans Solutions Act of 2011” and which, thankfully is still in committee. May it stay there!
"Other more market oriented approaches to achieving socially optimal levels of pollution control are also possible. One such approach is to set a tax on the polluting activity that is equal to the social cost of the pollution. Thus, if burning a gallon of gasoline results in pollution that represents a cost to society as a whole of $1, it would be economically efficient to tax gasoline at $1 per gallon."
OK, who then decides the amount of the “cost to society”? The EPA, a new government body or a Quango set up just establish and enforce the true “cost to society”. And for what, a AGW hypothesis which the scientific community is still arguing about?
As the developed world stresses its fiscal ability to tax and pay for its social programs and pet projects, there is today more of a threat to the wellbeing of nation states from the uncontrolled spend and tax regimes than there is from private industry. One could be forgiven for believing that the goal of some is to bankrupt democracies and then to rebuild someone’s vision of a new world order.
No, I don't think it's anything that complicated. They just want ME to leave. And this is the kind of thing that would do it.
BTW: The proposed bill as currently written includes for a $2.6K "credit" per e-vehicle paid to the manufacturer up to a maximum of $200MM per manufacturer....tax payer screwed again for some dogooders concept of "social justice". The pen is mightier than the sword.
If California wants to drive out (no pun intended) what is left of its economic base then these kinds of regulations will aid in that endeavor. Of course the automakers are happy about this. The CAFE standards going forward are ridiculous but California is creating a market for cars that would otherwise generate no demand but still have to be built and offset by heavy incentives in order to avoid paying huge fines to the EPA. Nice little game being played here.
California is the commie crucible for their intentions across the country!
I've lived in California all my life. Compared to the 60's there isn't any smog. This is massive overkill.
I am certain smog has nothing to do with this.
It doesn't. Kali air is infinitely cleaner than it was thirty years ago. It's all about money, income redistribution and control. As I see it anyway. The most intelligent argument under the article was one suggesting that new taxes would need to be developed as electric cars don't pay for the roads. I love our elite. De so mush smatta dan me
